  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump says ‘we have to beat the hell’ out of ‘radical left lunatics’ after Kirk killing

From the politico article.

I probably shouldn’t be out here talking to you in all fairness but we will be brave. And we have a great country. We have radical left lunatics out there and we just have to beat the hell out of them.”

The president added in a separate answer that he would urge his supporters to follow a nonviolent path in response to the shooting. “He [Kirk] was an advocate of nonviolence,” Trump said. “That’s the way I’d like to see people respond.”

This sounds to me like a battle of ideas for persuasion and action at the ballot box. Most ( not all) of the visible mental insanity I am seeing seems to be from leftist ideology in the assassins and the those celebrating the assassinations. Hardly any conservatives cheered the assassinations of democrats in Minnesota. Any who did needs exorcism from demonic insanity ( Psalm 7:9) .Trump has been a genuine assassination target. Then there is often unfounded liberal assumptions that conservatives are indifferent about school shootings. I tend to believe families who have suffered loss in school shootings vote liberal, conservative, don’t vote etc.

lol, when has that ever been an approach of Trump's? The guy led a months-long con about the 2020 election that resulted in his operatives being prosecuted for various forms of election fraud and his fans attempting an insurrection at the capitol.

Most ( not all) of the visible mental insanity I am seeing seems to be from leftist ideology in the assassins and the those celebrating the assassinations.

The same day as the Kirk murder, a white supremacist shot up a high school. A couple months ago, a crazy right-winger murdered a MN state legislator and her husband. A few years ago, a right-wing militia group was plotting to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer. When somebody broke into Nancy Pelosi's house and attacked her husband, conservatives mocked him for months and spread conspiracy theories about it being a gay lovers spat.

If you're seeing most of the insanity coming from the left, it's because you've become inured to the meaning of what gets bandied around the right constantly.

Trump has been a genuine assassination target.

As have people on the left.

The only people egging them on on Jan 6 were folks pushing the "stop the steal" con, which was ...checks notes... not the left.
I'm wondering if what seems like you putting words in my mouth is actually just badly misunderstanding what's being said. I was talking about all of the celebrating Kirk's death and trash talking him the day of his assassination. The topic of this thread is the the Kirk killing, not Jan 6th.

What’s more likely to be the case is that you’ve gotten turned around and forgotten what thread you’re in. Nobody in this thread - not you nor anybody else - has talked about “celebrating Kirk’s death and trash talking him the day of his assassination.” This thread is about some of Trump’s comments.

Trump says: ‘we have to beat the hell’ out of ‘radical left lunatics'.
I say: he was probably speaking figuratively.
You say: the right might take it literally.
I say: then egging on the right (by celebrating Kirk’s death and trash talking him the day of his assassination) probably wasn't a good idea.

In this charged, outraged, unstable nation would such “figurative language “ be good leadership?

Usually what happens is, the president says a bunch of stuff, and then the media isolates a few words out of all of it to use against him and stir up the public.

A "what if" scenario. The left egging them on so much might not have been such a good idea.
Have you ever heard the old expression that goes "when all you have is a hammer, every problem is a nail"? That's Trump, and by extension MAGA in a nutshell. The only tool in the arsenal is "Blame the left!" When Trump lost the 2020 election, he blamed the left for voter fraud (despite no evidence whatsoever). When Charlie Kirk was shot, he blamed the left (despite the actual killer not being on the left, politically). See a pattern?

-- A2SG, not really a hard puzzle to solve.....

Even though it's been the left celebrating the assassination and trash talking Kirk after his death, no finger should be pointed at the left.

Man, it's times like this I really wish I'd gone into Irony Meter Repair as a career choice.

Journalists are supposed to be intelligible.

Well, I'm not currently a working journalist, so I guess I can be as intelligible as I like.

Or could it be you simply did not get my inference? Sorry about that.

Yep. Some people tend to go more for style and attempted sophistication, rather than clarity. Like apparently I'm supposed to get the Demi Lovato reference. It's like one is supposed to be familiar with what the other is familiar with, and perhaps even be a mind reader to follow along.

I thought my initial post was very clear and quite intelligible. But when you chose to ironically prove my point, I decided to make a cute comment on the irony. That, apparently, seemed unintelligible to you, and thus, here we are.

Then don't worry about it.

There wasn't any irony involved though.

Yeah, there was. That you can't see it would have been why an irony meter would have broken.

-- A2SG, but there I go again, being cute instead of intelligible. Oh well.
