  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When Jesus said love your neighbor, he didn't mean to put up with, condone or support wickedness and the wicked.
He said to love.
At NO point does he EVER quality that or provide exceptions.

He tells us to love our enemy.
Who is more our enemy than people you think are "wicked" or "condone wickedness"?

He tells us "Big deal. YOu love your loved ones....EVERYONE does that" (hence the lack of creedence to a "good father" being a good person or a good christian)

And therein lies the problem.
Yes. Because if anyone says anything that disagrees with the leftist liberal agenda, then that means he is hateful. Correct?

Jesus Christ never codones or supported wickedness or incorrect beliefs.

If that's what you got out of my post, I don't see the point of continuing this discussion.

Has nothing to do with politics. There are both left and right agenda items that would be distasteful to christians and should be supported by christians.

Faith should never ever EVER be tied to politics.

God is above that.

Then, why do you really believe that Charlie Kirk was hateful?

Should any blame be placed upon whoever influenced Tyler Robinson into hating Charlie Kirk while deciding Kirk needs to be assassinated?

The article condemned Democrats for characterizing Republicans as enemies of humanity. You understand, I hope, that many on what you call the "left" sincerely believe that there are Republican leaders who are indeed enemies of humanity.

And that is the problem that the leftists have. IMO, radical leftists are not rational people.

Right.... even if you disagree with that characterization, it's not just a tactic, some people do actually find things like xenophobia, homophobia, and racism to be moral boundaries that shouldn't be crossed. Even if the Right has a long history of "kayfabe", of peddling in contempt and dismissing it as "just business", but not every expression of moral disgust or indignation is performative moral posturing

That's dehumanizing rhetoric meant to be dismissive. It's also an anti-intellectual move.

There isn't one universal ideal of reason- Aristotilian syllogistic reasoning is just one logical system of many. And rejection of essentialist metaphysics, which is common in actual leftist discourse, isn't unheard of in traditional, non-western cultures, either. So really what you are talking about as defining "rationality" is hardly universal in scope, it's tied to a particular time and place.

You are calling Charlie Kirk hateful.
No, I didn't. I said that he said hateful things. It's an important distinction - I don't know what he was really like as a person, seeing as I never met him.
I already explained why. As I said, if you look at that list of quotes and only see "disagreement with the leftist agenda," I don't know what to tell you. It's possible to disagree with Democrats without stating that they hate America, or to articulate your problems with affirmative action without saying that you worry that any Black person is unqualified for their job, or to express your concerns with illegal immigration without claiming that there's a conspiracy to replace white people in the US with immigrants.

Quoting myself from the last time I had this conversation:
The late Christopher Hitchens and the late Madalyn Murray O’Hair also said some pretty hateful and nasty things others might find crude or offensive.

Not excusing anyone, but they’re ALL human.

I’ll let God alone be their judge.

I’ve said it things I deeply regret, too.

Your point? I don't like Hitchens either, and I have no idea who Ms. O'Hair was. People who say hateful things do not get my respect.

God alone can judge whether a person is worthy of heaven, but I (and you) are free to choose whether or not to grant our respect to a person based on what they say and do here on Earth. Respect is earned.

Agreed. I have no further comment. My only point is no one here is perfect, not that I’m making any excuses for anyone,

Your opinion and beliefs about what you think Charlie Kirk said are based upon taking some words, phrases, and sentences of his out of context, big time.
