WHY DID TONGUES STOP ?

Speaking in. Tongues was and every day thing. it seem. when I was , about 12 years old !!

And I notice that there are some that joined us saying that tongues should be spoken today !!

And I say that they were taken away , and also Prophecies. !!

We receive the same Holy Spirit that gives gifts in the bible. So yeah, the same gifts are given today.

David. Yes In Acts they were all known languages that the apostles miraculously spoke. Some do claim a secret prayer language. Some point to the lords crucifixion in Mark 15: 34 when Jesus says Eloi Eloi lama sabachthani as a secret prayer language. But again it was a known language that the Jesus spoke being spoken in Aramaic. As to angelic language. Seems that the angels have always spoken to humanity in our own known languages and we not speak in their language to them. At least in the bible accounts of our dealing's with them

Tongues did not cease, it was somewhat hijacked. Let me explain. What was once a gift from His Holy Spirit it unfortunately became mandatory as a Christian identifier. This led to a disastrous situation, the impersonation of His Holy Spirit by pressure. Though I have no doubt there are true believers spreading His Gospel in languages they do not know, it is far and few between to find them today.
As far as a personal " prayer language", ( aka tongues) , if one wishes to pray without their understanding, it is between them and the Father. Corporate " prayer language " displays have no place in a public setting unless one has the gift to interpret. A whole congregation speaking at once is a stumbling block. It unfortunately introduces pressure, discomfort and a spirit of competitiveness. This does not serve to edify the Body of Christ.

Yes, I do have strong opinions on this gift because, as a tongue speaker myself, I have unfortunately seen it massively abused. This saddens me.

for water / hydro is not in the Greek Text. and I say that this happens during the GREAT TRIBULATION after the departure

of the Body of Christ , as. written in. 2. Thess 2:3 and verses 4-8 ,

I can see how you can get to the point of not having church meetings where everyone is speaking in tongues at once. But if the purpose is prayer or praise then what I have seen is that such meetings are quite effective. Most earlier charismatic churches practiced this and saw lots of fruit from it.
If you doubt this find a church where they nearly all sing in the spirit in tongues at once. The Holy Spirit can really move during those times with a tangible presence and awe of God. No one expects interpretation, because a tongue for interpretation is as the Holy Spirit wills, not man. Those tongues are corporate and are part of the gift of divers kinds of tongues.
The personal tongues or evidence of the baptism though can be exercised on demand. I don't think that Paul's teaching was particularly comprehensive. Take the word of knowledge versus the word of wisdom, can we be sure that one is past or present tense and the other is future as some suggest? Or that discernment of spirits is at least in part the seeing of angels?
Also, even in the Upper Room can we be sure it was only just foreign languages? Drunkenness by some seems to imply languages too that some could not understand.

Did Paul fully establish a complete roadmap for any of the gifts? I don't think so. Why? he could not possible know all the differences and interactions. First because they flow together like the colors of a rainbow. You sometimes can't tell when prophecy dips into a word of knowledge because they both flow together. Even closer, faith and miracles working together to bring someone to restoration. We can't even be sure of the difference between all healings and miracles. Secondly, Paul tells us in I Cor 12:5-7 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal"

The nuances are not really so important after all, the manifestation of whatever comes from the gifts is to profit. We can try to make neat categorizations, but with different administrations, diversity of operations, and diversity of gifts, I would suggest the permutations and combinations are much higher than most expect.

When Smith Wigglesworth would hit someone in the stomach and they were healed. Was that a specific administration? Are we even sure it was a healing or was it a deliverance? Considering Smith Wigglesworth's Fierce Healing Methodology

Others have tried and been sued for harming the one seeking healing, but Wigglesworth's most unusual operation did meet the standard of "profit withal." So am I adding or are others subtracting? Could someone heal with spit besides Jesus? Yes, there are modern claims of that too. But again, none of this matters as long as it profits withal.

I am glad I believe the gifts of the Holy Ghost are still in effect today.
I am glad to have been given some of those gifts.
