  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Signs we are in the end times.

I think two things that we know we are living in the end times.

1. The parable of the fig tree generation puts Jesus's return not later than the end of 2037.

2. The conflict between Israel and Iran seems to be leading up to the Gog/Magog event of Ezekiel 38-39. Which the 7 years of Ezekiel 39:9 are the same 7 years of Daniel 9:27.

Look up, our redemption draws near !

Earth quakes and wars and rumors of wars has been around for some time. Thats part of it as it says increasing wars as well. Which could also mean in intensity or in ideological wars. Which seems to be the case today more than ever. The local culture wars have become global cultural wars.

I prefer the fig tree parable as it doesn't rely on anything in particular and is like a changing season and time that one senses or becomes more aware of spiritually.

I know every generation feels this way but thats part of it I think. That its over a long time and yet culminating or evolving towards its inevitable confrontation or state of affairs. That it seems to be at least in my lifetime getting closer in its fullfillment and in fact it seems close. Close when looking back to how things have progressed and ahead as the natural progression of what is now.

Its strange in a way because not too long ago such a world was not really on the radar. We had evil dictators but the world allied and we knew good and evil. Now its fragmented and divided world.

We have definitely or are coming into a new age of humankind. One I don't think is good and unfortunately not good for Christians.

The climate seems to be cultivated that such a thing can now happen. That people and nations like the Islamists but now in the west will kill for their beliefs. What use to be in far away nations and we thanked God we had avoided is now in our own backyards and throughout the world.

Some sort of revolution is brewing in nations for all sorts of reasons. But fundementally I think it a spiritual war and everything is pointing that way. The principalities and forces are rising and fighting for existence and supremecy and all are coming to a head.

The great thing is whenever there are great upheavals God always counters. We are also seeing a Christian revival happening in various places. Including with young people. Bold young Christians and especially men. They will speak the truth for the world to hear and its when its most dark that Christs light shines greatest.

Now my take on Bible.
We have surely experienced the 'labour pangs' of the coming apocalypse.
People who think that life on our earth can continue as it is indefinitely are in denial of the reality that confronts us every day in the news about nations preparing for war and the increasing proliferation of natural disasters.

In many areas of the world at this time, there are countries with populations that exceed the capability of their land to feed them. This is especially apparent in the Middle East and now with governmental policies in many of these nations, the regimes find themselves unable to fulfill the aspirations of their youthful populations. In their desperation to divert the anger of their hungry and unsatisfied peoples, these leaders will point to a scapegoat as the cause of their troubles. We already hear the leaders of Iran doing this and it is the State of Israel who is ‘the cancer in the midst of the Islamic lands’, that must be got rid of, then they assure their people; all will be well.

For anyone who looks at the success rate of diplomatic efforts to resolve international threats, it will be evident that an aggressive nation simply uses that process to buy time in their preparations for war. The Islamic code of Al Takkaya means that they are allowed, even encouraged, to use untruths and to abrogate treaties in order to advance their cause. But the intentions of Iran and its allies, have been made abundantly clear, they say: ‘We will wipe them out as a nation, Israel will be remembered no more’.

The amazing thing about this quote, is that it was written more that 3000 years ago as a prophecy and now, in the Bible we can read it in Psalms 83:4.
This Psalm lists the people groups who plot against Israel and it goes on to prophesy how those enemies will be destroyed by God, as the opponents of ancient Israel were.

The Bible consists of approximately one third of prophetic scripture. That which has been fulfilled proves its accuracy and the inspired revelation of the ancient prophets.

Now, we are very close to the time when the Creator God will act once again on the earth and the many prophecies about the end of this age will take place.
We should know what the Lord has planned to do; to correct the world, now once again: As in the days of Noah…..

Jesus said wars and rumors of wars, earthquakes (etc) are NOT signs of the end.

They are birth pains.

These are what happen in a world that is suffering. We've had no shortage of wars and rumors of wars and natural disasters--the point Jesus is getting at here is don't look at these things and think "the end is coming"; but to recognize that this is what our fallen world looks like--these things happen all the time.

Jesus calls them "birth pains", that language is similar to what St. Paul says in Romans 8, the birth pains of creation under the futility of death. Labor pains describes the world suffering and longing for release--for what is new. This world is fallen, broken, suffering and longing for redemption, the renewal of creation. It's been this way since the Fall, and will be this way until Christ's return and the resurrection of the dead on the Last Day.

These are not signs, these are the travails of a broken world.

Jesus doesn't give us signs about His return, just the opposite: Jesus says we will have no idea when He will come back, which is why we must always be on watch. The only signs Jesus gives are the signs of Jerusalem's destruction (that happened in 70 AD).

I think it’s important to remember that a microphone isn’t a guarantee of knowledge or expertise. You can waste a lot of life looking for signs and dates or find yourself on the wrong side of predictions like the recent farce. No matter what a person believes they know or heard the only one who knows for certain is the Lord. If He wanted us to have that information we would.

An integral part of spiritual maturity is a willingness to accept the unknown. No amount of digging will open a door the Lord has sealed or impart a truth He denied. Most of our time should be spent on the kingdom not looking for Christ’s return. He’ll come when He does and that’s the end of it.
