  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Speaking as the world, I don't want Christianity to do anything in particular.

I want We The People (through our 'worldly' government) to address certain issues like hunger, poverty and discrimination.
The government does. It seems for some though anything short of the government giving everyone who asks a ton of cash and benefits, isn't enough. And addressing discrimination seems to mean giving everyone any job or anything else they want if they're not white. It's either that or they want to pretend it's still the 1960s.

What do you mean used to become American? Immigrants who come here are American.

What does "speaking American" mean?

Yes, American culture is a diverse tapestry--that was kind of my point. But you're the one who said there's no such thing as American culture.
This was in response to you in your post saying white culture does not exist. You want to ignore white culture in America, as American. Hence what speaking American means....
I'm still waiting for someone to tell me what "white culture" is.

All the cultures which exclude white culture of course. Those which desire to not assimilate.
Fly their flags, speak their language, etc.

An extreme, non-political example would be the woman who forgave her mother’s murderer and let him live in her home. The man ended up murdering her too.
That's sympathy, not empathy.

Empathy:
"the psychological identification with or vicarious experiencing of the emotions, thoughts, or attitudes of another."

Sympathy:
"the act or state of feeling sorrow or compassion for another."
or
"agreement in feelings or emotions between people or on the part of one person toward another, especially as based on similar tastes, shared understanding, etc."

Rephrased, to empathize with someone is to understand their feelings. To sympathize is to agree with them.

Once again, my signature's relevance rears its head.

What is "white culture"? Have you confused british-American (protestant) culture for "white culture"? The rest of us "white people" reject that notion.

People have the right and have many reasons to hate an entire race.
How is it possible to have a reason to hate an entire race?

And there is black culture in America--the shared experience of the enslaved and their descendants has forged a common cultural identity.
Which is really only African-American culture. Not British-Caribbean culture for example.

I assume that pathological altruism is cut from much the same cloth.
Pathological altruism is a flawed idea. There is always a secondary gain in so called pathological altruism.

Not a very useful concept.

I'm still shocked that empathy and compassion have become a bad thing for some Christians. If that's the case, we have certainly lost our way. Isn't this an example of treating that which is good as if it is evil? Isn't that what Jesus called blasphemy of the Spirit?

*waits for accusation of virtue signaling*
