Hi, I've been going to church my whole life. In particular, I have stayed at the same church since I was a baby. What I've noticed now that I'm an adult is what I believe to be an, "attempt," to move the spirit in this church and many churches. A way of supernaturally calling on God whether it's his will or not. Too often do I feel lost in the delusion of the spirit then the actual holy spirit. Maybe, it's just me. Also, this idea of throwing your problems before God's feet. Great! But, then isn't there supposed to be a resolution? When there isn't too often I'm questioned for a lack of faith. Well... My God, Jesus Christ, actually solves problems and doesn't see ours as meaningless. I tire of these things at church. On a personal note my private life life is not well. I'm unhappy, which is likely what attributes to these aforementioned feelings. Yes, also, for any of you reading, I am too smart for my own good, or at the very least too smart for most people in this day and age, and I'm only 36. Anyway, have at thee. Any takers are welcome.

His Holy Spirit dwells in the believer. A corporate call for His Holy Spirit may not be that fruitful as He only works in the converted and converts those who love Jesus Christ of Nazareth.
Sounds like your congregation has a bit of Bethel Redding in it?
Blessings.

I believe it is on the individual level that the Holy Spirit dwells with us in our conscience as we do our best to live by the commandments. ( see John 14:15-18, Romans 13:8-10, 1 Timothy 1:5 etc.).

I don’t claim to be a great example but just try to understand what the Lord wants us to do. As far as on an active, situational basis in a congregation, I have no idea ( although I am not denying that there is something to it).

I'm just tired of big churches being so sensational. We don;t understand God, just understand that people!

What is Bethel Redding?

Bethel is a church in Redding, CA that is part of the NAR (New Apostolic Reformation). It's hard to explain what the NAR is in a short paragraph, but basically take ye old standard Pentecostal church, and then dial it up to a thousand. It gets weird. And I'm trying to be nice in my explanation too (I'm not an unbiased source).

Based on your description, I'm not seeing that--but I don't know your church or what kind of church it is, so I don't know. But I can understand frustration in people telling you that if you're not seeing "results" of some kind, then that must be from a lack of faith or something. That certainly isn't the kind of church environment I'd want to be part of.

I have diagnosed generalized anxiety disorder and clinical depression. I've been taking medication for about a decade now, and through good medical treatment from professionals, and other factors my anxiety and depression are not debilitating (that wasn't always the case). And I'd say a good 90% of the time I'm usually okay. But it's never easy, I'm always in a state of struggle with my own mind. I know that with the Lord I'm a thousand times better off than if I wasn't; but that doesn't mean there isn't a constant struggle. And any church that would suggest that what basically amounts to magical wishful thinking will flip a switch on and it'll all go away is, well, lying to me. That isn't what God promises. I know what's written in my Bible, I know the struggles that people of faith experience, what they've always experienced. I can read the stories of Moses and Elijah and the Prophets, I can read what St. Paul shares about himself, and what all of Jesus' Apostles experienced.

A good church is a church of broken sinners discovering together, every day, what it means to take Jesus seriously--and to share not only in the joy of that, but also in the daily struggles of being a sinner-saint. Because it is grounded in something real, authentic, genuine: Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is here, with us, because God promises this is true--but the Spirit's presence is not in seeing our problems just disappear, but in that He is there with us through our struggles--constantly driving us forward in faith, in hope, constantly pointing us to Jesus.

I am too smart for my own good, or at the very least too smart for most people in this day and age, and I'm only 36.
The problem with churches today is, they have left the solid foundation of scripture and have developed ideas that the scripture does not support… for instance what you stated above if you had the backing or understanding of scripture, you would never think the acquiring of knowledge here makes one smart

All knowledge of first creation, both heaven and earth will be removed:
Isaiah 65:17 (KJV)
17¶ For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

1 Corinthians 13:8 (KJV)

8Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

Revelation 21:1-5 (KJV)

1And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5And he that sat upon the throne said,a Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful
.

The point of scripture is to prepare our minds to be in agreement with God‘s mind when we come before him… His Word even warns us of the danger of knowledge that is here without the guidance of his word

1 Corinthians 8:1 (KJV)
1Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.

However, when we take what was above and understand that God‘s not planning on keeping any of it plus what he says of it now

1 Corinthians 8:2 (KJV)
2And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.

Perhaps you can see the error of your thinking now with the light of scripture put upon it. If you had all knowledge that is in this world, what would that be in comparison to what God has said to you it’s true value as to his thinking…

But, then isn't there supposed to be a resolution?
What does his Word say?

They attempt to move a " spirit " however it is not His Holy Spirit. You can do a simple search, Bethel Supernatural School of Ministry in Redding California . They are an NAR affiliated group who are infiltraing many, many congregations with their false teachings. Just something to keep in mind if you believe there is spiritual deception in your congregation.

Thank you very much. Your words are encouraging and true. God wants to be there in the struggle not just make it disappear is something I absolutely agree with.

I appreciate the scripture and possible the encouragement. I don't like your assumption of me and my understanding of knowledge, but thanks anyway.

isn't there supposed to be a resolution? When there isn't too often I'm questioned for a lack of faith.
First is that we do not allow anything to have power over us >

"I will not be brought under the power of any," our Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 6:12.

So, my basic resolution for any issue is, give it to God and do not allow it to control me and my attention and emotions. And obey God in His peace > do not allow any thing or person to take me away from submitting to God in His peace.

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." (Colossians 3:15)

Trust and obey only how God is ruling us in His peace.

And God who is almighty is able to easily get rid of any thinking or emotions or feelings or desires or unforgiveness and hurts which try to violate us and get our attention away from obeying God in His peace.

Do not trust any decisions or feelings or preferences which would get your attention away from submitting to God in His peace. And trust God to have you succeed in doing this, in sharing with Him and with Christians who help you with this.

We do this as family; do not isolate yourself in trying on your own.

This, in my opinion, is the basic way to resolve any issue. First, submit to God and do what He has you doing in His peace. And He will guide you about what to do about any issue . . . whether you stay clear of it, or God gives you creativity in His peace for handling it well.

"casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7)

Whatever man. I needed encouragement and hope, you offered judgement and slander.
If truth causes you to feel judged, I would check into my standing… stand only on the word of God and you will escape judgment; stand anywhere else, and the word of God will judge you
John 12:48 (KJV)
48He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

All churches have problems because they are run by people. There are three main problem categories, doctrine, personalities, and structure. As a possible solution, you may want to find a small bible church. These are generally independent and are often similar to the Baptist model. They key thing to look for is where you can get instruction in Bible tools to help you learn on your own. This will let you sift through the tons of baloney people will throw at you.

The purpose of the church can be found in Ephesians;

Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;
Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Eph 4:16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Using this metric, it is difficult to see any church that is not a failure because none of us has made much progress in Christ-likeness. If your church is not helping you become more like Christ, you need to find one that will or learn to use bible tools that will help you learn more on your own.

There are a lot of web sites that are not very helpful, but one I found that has an extensive blog archive, and free videos, and books that might help;
