Dang. So soon after his farewell tour too.

RIP.

Not the biggest fan of 70s metal, but Black Sabbath holds up pretty well.

Quite surprising. He didn't look well, but not like was dying either. Guess he pushed himself for one final hurrah.
It was a living wake.

I remember it being surprising he was still alive more than ten years ago, with him saying "I'm a medical marvel" or words to that effect. Based on the huge amounts of drugs he did. But I was still shocked when I heard about it today.

And of course just a few hours before the announcement I happened to be looking up Black Sabbath on Wikipedia. I looked up each member to see if they were all still alive. It's so weird. What are the odds of looking someone up out of the blue just a couple of hours before their death is announced? Yet that seems to happen all the time for a lot of people.

Oh and I watched him singing War Pigs on Youtube a few hours ago too. Weird.

I used to cover War Pigs fairly regularly in one of my working bands.
And less frequently Fairies Wear Boots, which has some rather, um, blunt lyrics.

Yeah, fairies wear boots and you gotta believe me
I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes, alright, now

So, I went to the doctor, see what he could give me
He said, "Son, son, you've gone too far
'Cause smokin' and trippin' is all that you do, " yeah

Yeah, that's a bummer, I was just watching some clips from that final concert he did
(sad to see him have to sit in a chair through the whole set)

But glad he was at least able to do that final concert when he did.

While I don't believe in a heaven... if there is a "metal heaven", it'd be nice to think he's chilling with Randy Rhodes up there.

Although, I think Jake E Lee was the best guitarist he ever had (Randy Rhodes and Zakk Wylde peeps would get hostile with me for saying that lol)

My first band in high school played Paranoid.

Ever heard of the Chicago band called Coven?

I can see that. Bark at the Moon was a great album, and it was my introduction to Ozzy in the 6th grade. I can remember sitting in the gym watching basketball and listening to my friend's Walkman. I kept rewinding it to that opening guitar lick for Bark at the Moon. I was mesmerized and in a world of my own.

Odd that on CF nobody's stumping about him being a Devil Worshiper or saying "SEE HE DIED HE'S NOT RIGHT WITH GOD" the way that I saw other places with Ronnie James Dio.

in most Heavy Metal music's case a lot of it is just theatrics (even the infamous bat was a rubber prop), so good to see that people can separate art from artist.

Back in the 80's that was definitely the case with the older generation. But these days us older generation knows most of it was not only theatrics, but pretty silly overall.

And what happened with the bat is, someone tossed a real bat up on the stage, and Ozzy bit its head off because he thought it was fake. So it was like "ha someone tossed a fake bat up here, okay I'll play along". It's said he had to go though a series of rabies shots afterwards.
