We saw the new Jurassic World movie. There were some parts I really liked. It was fine for what it was.
I really, really like the first 5. The past 2, not as much. I think I'm starting to join the 'just end the franchise' camp

I posted in the other thread about liking the Superman For All Seasons comic. I had some hope the new movie would give me similar warm vibes. Because the trailers with the dog, Lois, etc. made it seem that way.

For starters, they decided to make Krypto a rough dog so the scenes generally don't come across as sweet. When asked why he brought the dog to a fight, Superman says, "So he wouldn't kill my parents' cows." He's also now Supergirl's dog, not Superman's. Superman's biological parents are turned into villains. Most of the movie is Superman getting beat up, made to look stupid, or people questioning his intentions. While Lois isn't always nice to Superman, they do have a few kissing scenes and seem to be in love at the end. The Lois stuff is at least decent but everything else... they say he's the strongest metahuman at the beginning and then you just see him pulverized repeatedly. They made Superman barely the hero of his own movie.

Confucius

This movie doesn't dive into his teachings much. It's more focused on the chaotic world of ancient China that he lived in. A time of almost constant war when everyone was vying for power and controlled the commoners with fear. Confucius was controversial for believing society worked better when rulers set a moral example and the people were taught benevolence (more or less what we'd call brotherly love). He gets involved in a few battles and had a difficult life since he challenged the elites. Confucius and Jesus come from very different cultures yet both advocated for compassion.

That sounds like a movie I'd like.

The past few years we've been discussing the control the Romans had over the Jews when Jesus entered the world. It's been new teaching to me. It is like Confucius in that regard, he comes to a people needing rescue.

It's a pretty interesting movie because it's way back when China was still burying slaves with the elites. Confucius' teachings eventually helped end that practice.

The Romans could be very cruel with mass executions and harsh labor. I've read a little about how many times Jews rebelled because of it. Jesus has done a lot for people both with saving their souls and His influence bringing out our better nature with each other.
