John MacArthur, the 86-year-old longtime California pastor and broadcaster, has been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. The announcement was made during Sunday worship, with a church leader telling the congregation he “may be in the presence of the Lord soon.”

The latest update was delivered by Tom Patton, a staff pastor at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California, where MacArthur has served for over five decades.

Patton asked the congregation to pray for MacArthur and his family, saying the church was placing their pastor “at the feet of the glorious Savior whom he has served so faithfully for so many years and now awaits his final command to be in his presence forever.”

For what it is worth this was my experience earlier today. It's personal revelation if that.

My wife got home from her Baptist Bible study about 11.30am this morning. I then borrowed the car and went to the library to exchange a couple of books. On the way home I got a couple of bottles of wine as I usually have a glass after the evening meal. I'm having a glass now as I type the post.

But as I was driving home I had this brief sense of something. I said to myself "I wonder if John Macarthur has died?" I also had a sense of somebody being acutely embarrassed. I thought to myself "If he has, maybe he's been shown just how wrong he was about the Catholic Church?". I suppose this was about midday.

Out of curiosity I searched the net tonight (it's now 7.54pm local time) to see if he had died.

I found out he'd died 6.17pm today in Santa Clarita, California.

6.17pm in California is 11.17am Brisbane time, which is not that long before I had the sense while driving the car.

For what it's worth.

I'll put it this way - having bagged Mary, the Saints, the Papal office, Christ in the Eucharist for most of his pastoral career, he would have suddenly found himself face to face with the whole lot of them - Mary the Mother of Christ the Son of God, handpcked by God; the saints many of whom were martyred; a long line of past popes who inherited the See of St. Peter the Rock, and Christ pointing to Himself declaring the bread and wine to be His body and blood.

Then he would have been faced with a "Please explain". I suspect a sputtering apology would have been the best he could offer. Sorry if I sound cynical but I had a sense of acute embarrassment on somebody's part at around midday today.

Or, conversely, maybe you'll be surprised when you get to heaven. Likely, we all will. ;)

To even things out a bit I don't think John MacArthur is lost by any means. The sense I had was one of embarrassment, if somewhat acute. It wasn't fear or terror.

God would have recognised his faith in Christ and all the good things he did, which seem to have been considerable. But I think he would have been shocked to find out just how wrong he was about the Catholic Church, and Mary in particular, the Mother of God (the Son), the new Eve who is opposed to the devil as foretold right at the very beginning.

Genesis 3:15 NIV "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”

That's why she figures so strongly in Catholic exorcisms with telling effect.

That scripture is called the protoevangelion. It is a messianic foreshadowing. The woman in the scripture is Eve, and God is saying to Satan that there will be super bad feelings between Eve and her offspring (Jesus) and Satan and his minions, and her offspring (Jesus) will crush Satan and the best Satan can do is strike Jesus' heel. Meaning Christ has already won the war with his death and resurrection.

Jesus is Mary's direct offspring, and she is "full of grace". Mary is the one the devil fears.

And once it's said it?

At the end, the priest says to the demon, "Go away! Disappear!" The demon usually answers, "No, I don't want to." It rebels and revolts. Sometimes it says "You have no power over me. You are nothing to me." But after a while, its resistance weakens. This usually happens after the invocation of the Holy Mother, she's very important for that. No demon ever dares to insult her during an exorcism. Never.

Does he have more respect for Mary than for God himself?

Apparently. Otherwise no holds are barred, and everyone is insulted: the priests, everyone present, the bishops, the Pope, even Jesus Christ. But never the Virgin Mary. It's an enigma.
The ennity is between Mary and the devil. Eve died and disappeared into history. Whether she is in Heaven, Hell or Purgatory is not stated.

Mary is alive and well in her heavenly realm as the Queen of Heaven. From time to time she appears - for example at Lourdes and Fatima to name the two best known.

I understand what you say, but that scripture, Genesis 3:15, is speaking of Eve. It doesn't say "full of grace", God is talking to Adam, Eve, and the snake in the Garden of Eden. Nobody knew Mary at that time. Eve understood God to be saying that her offspring (some generations removed) will be the one to have victory over Satan.

God knew Mary would be a future historical figure. The human writers would not, but God has a way of expanding the horizons of the written word in Scripture.

It's not called "inspired" for nothing.

When God sent Saul to Ananias, neither Saul or Ananias had any idea of what would become Paul's future ministry. As far as Ananias was concerned, Saul was a downright threat.

Acts 9:10-15 NIV

10. In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord spoke to him in a vision, “Ananias!”

“Here I am, Lord,” he answered.

11“Get up!” the Lord told him. “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”

13But Ananias answered, “Lord, many people have told me about this man and all the harm he has done to Your saints in Jerusalem. 14And now he is here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on Your name.”

15“Go!” said the Lord. “This man is My chosen instrument to carry My name before the Gentiles and their kings, and before the people of Israel. 16I will show him how much he must suffer for My name.”

God knew the plans He had for Saul, even if they had no idea at the time. All Ananias knew was he that he was facing an existential threat, and all Saul knew was that he'd been knocked off his high horse and blinded.

God foresaw Mary as the mother of Christ right back when He spoke to Eve. The human writer didn't obviously, but God did. And it was the new Eve, Mary and her offspring Jesus who would be opposed to the devil and he to them. The exorcists don't call on Eve - that would be a complete waste of time. They call on Mary, the new Eve.

The proof of her efficacy is shown in the results - the demons leave, and they never insult her, even as they insult everybody else.

I am not sure why you are focused on exorcisms since this discussion is about John MacArthur’s death. I was just comment that we will all likely be surprised when we get to heaven.

Hey guys this is a thread about someone that followed Christ all of his life and just died. Whether you agree with him or not is inconsequential and in bad taste here, I did not always agree with pastor McArthur but this is not the place. Please pray for his family in this time of loss.

Revelation shows us what is to be fulfilled. Mary is the actual mother of Jesus. Both Eve and Mary were brought into the world sinless, but Mary never sinned and reflects Jesus, as the moon does with the sun's light. Satan was crushed by Jesus during the time of Mary's life, not Eve's.

Mary sinned. She was a normal human being. Anything else and that would destroy the fact that Jesus was born a human. Again, this IS not the tread for this discussion. Start a thread and I’ll be happy to participate.

I lifted this from an AI answer to save time. I'm not sure what copyright AI has incidentally since it's not a person.

John MacArthur has expressed strong views against Catholic teachings on Mary, particularly the practices of praying to her and elevating her to a position of worship. He argues that the Bible does not support such practices and that they detract from the worship of God and Jesus Christ.
The reason I got onto exorcisms was a result of my irritation with his teachings about Mary's seeming insignificance as being nothing more than a woman. And I did a have a sense of someone being very embarrassed not long after he died.

I was already aware of his illness due to Michie's earlier post, and I had been wondering how he would fare when he did in fact die. I suspect I was given an answer, and I've had a few messages before eg. my old Protestant pastor (who was not particularly anti-Catholic) appearing in a brief vision sometime after he died in which he said "The Catholic Church is CLOSEST to the truth" with a distinct emphasis on the word "closest".

Then he just disappeared again..

I think we'll leave it at that. As I said I don't think he's lost but I think he might have been somewhat surprised to put it mildly when confronted by Mary in her role as Queen of Heaven, the role of the saints (to quote my old Protestant pastor again - "They're doing something up there"), a nearly unbroken line of popes going right back to Peter (with some in Hell admittedly), and the prayers of the Catholic religious orders ascending to heaven without ceasing. Again to quote my old pastor "I think they (the religious orders) underpin the church".

In other words John MacArthur irritated me quite a bit with his self-righteous anti-Catholic arrogance.

Unfortunately, 'debate' is what you get when you post a notice about a person's passing in a 'debate' forum. In doing so, persons feel encouraged to 'debate' the decedent's beliefs, accomplishments, and even his very eternal destiny.

Many of us in the Christian world highly respected John MacArthur and are presently mourning this great loss. But I suppose one has to have followed his ministry, and been blessed by it, to understand the sadness that many of us are now experiencing. Being one of those folks, I agree it is time to mourn, and pray, and not debate.
