I'm not the one claiming to be backed-up by Jesus Christ in my politics.
Jesus didn't consider helping the unfortunate to be political. Maybe we shouldn't, either.

How? How does less taxes on the rich make people poor. I must know!
In order to offset some of the “tax-cuts”, Medicaid was slashed.
But little Johnny’s appendix still bursts and the resultant cost for care falls on John Sr., who won’t be able to get the new(er) car that is reliable enough to get him to a better job across town.

You have reliable evidence that cutting back on medicaid was done, specifically, to offset tax cuts?

Instead I'll double down. What do you think of that?

I think you should have a good long conversation with your priest, probably one that involves and results in a lot of prayer, repentance, and self reflection.

My religion is NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS!
Leave your apologetics out of this discussion.

This is, arguably, the strangest statement another Christian has said to me here on Christian Forums. I'm treating you as a Christian brother and pointing you to Jesus, and you response is outrage?

Again, go have a long conversation with your priest. You need it. You need Jesus.

I am for "financial abortion" now, as a legal 'out' for men who aren't ready to be fathers.

...My wallet, my choice!!!

Fair is fair. No..?
So because a woman elected to not get an abortion, a man should be allowed to not pay child support…? What whackers bonkers logic is that?

Roughly one million children are malnourished in America. A lot less than 100 years ago, but still a lot. And most malnourishment cases mean deminished intelligence and worse futures. It costs America money to have kids grow up like that.

Jesus didn't say "help the poor, if they deserve it."
There are 72 million kids in the US. Thats .01% are malnourished. Thats not a lot. And with all the benefits provided to people in this country you must ask yourself why. Its certainly not because we aren't helping.

Jesus said to help the poor. My point is we are. We help the poor a great deal in this country and spend a TON of money doing so.

You should read my post #71 about what tge poor were in Jesus day and compair it to the so called poor we have today. We help the poor here. A lot.

Yes.
Thats .01% are malnourished.
Actually, about 1.4% according to your figures. Do you know how percentages are calculated? One million kids malnourished in the United States.

Thats not a lot.
A million malnourished kids seems like a lot to me.

And with all the benefits provided to people in this country you must ask yourself why. Its certainly not because we aren't helping.
Some people fall through the cracks. And the republicans just widened the cracks.

Jesus said to help the poor. My point is we are. We help the poor a great deal in this country and spend a TON of money doing so.
But the republicans decided we were helping too many of them. So they fixed that. We get it.

“Are there no prisons?” asked Scrooge.

“Plenty of prisons,” said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.

“And the Union workhouses?” demanded Scrooge. “Are they still in operation?”

“They are. Still,” returned the gentleman, “I wish I could say they were not.”

“The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?” said Scrooge.

“Both very busy, sir.”

“Oh! I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,” said Scrooge. “I’m very glad to hear it.”

“Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude,” returned the gentleman, “a few of us are endeavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices. What shall I put you down for?”

“Nothing!” Scrooge replied.

“You wish to be anonymous?”

“I wish to be left alone,” said Scrooge. “Since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I don’t make merry myself at Christmas and I can’t afford to make idle people merry. I help to support the establishments I have mentioned: they cost enough: and those who are badly off must go there.”

“Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.”

“If they would rather die,” said Scrooge, “they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”

Medicaid wasn't slashed.

Trump’s Medicaid cuts are coming for rural Americans: ‘It’s going to have to hit them first’

Community Hospital, based in McCook, Nebraska, said this week that it will shut down a rural clinic it runs in the town of Curtis, which has about 900 people.

"Unfortunately, the current financial environment, driven by anticipated federal budget cuts to Medicaid, has made it impossible for us to continue operating all of our services, many of which have faced significant financial challenges for years," Community Hospital CEO Troy Bruntz said in a statement on Wednesday.

More than 350,000 Nebraskans are Medicaid recipients as of the 2024 fiscal year. Both Community Hospital and Curtis Medical Center are located in Nebraska's 3rd Congressional District, which Trump carried by more than 50 points in the November general election.

And tax cuts were for everyone with the lower incomes getting the highest and the higher incomes getting the lowest.

Trump ‘big beautiful’ bill gives top 1% biggest tax cuts in these states

The legislation offers more than $4 trillion of net tax cuts over a decade, with most benefits accruing to higher-income households, analyses have found. It also slashes the social safety net, cutting billions of dollars from programs like Medicaid and food stamps meant to help lower earners.

1 million seems like a lot, but its not in comparison to how many kids we have. Again you ignore the reasons why. And they are not because we aren't helping.

What do want us to do? Go to every kids house and make sure the parents are feeding the kids right?
Some people fall through the cracks. And the republicans just widened the cracks.
What cracks? How did they widen?
But the republicans decided we were helping too many of them. So they fixed that. We get it.
They did? How so?

Yeah, its a good thing we dont operate like scrooge. We actually give a lot of money and resources to those in need.

A bunch of liberal opinion propaganda.

The rich get the LOWEST tax cut.

And the lowest earners the highest.

Says the person who thinks the lives of over a million hungry kids is NBD.

Put those kids in a uterus, though, and we’ll lose our minds trying to defend its “right” to be born only to be discarded then.

I don't think "they are all lying!" is going to be an adequate argument for you. That's what's in the bill that passed.

The rich get the LOWEST tax cut.
Not according to CBO...

Who would win and who would lose in Republicans' 'big, beautiful bill'

Businesses and higher-income households would be some of the biggest beneficiaries from tax cuts partly paid for with cuts to health insurance for lower-income households.

Trump now claims the (republican-supervised) Congressional Budget Office is lying.

"The Crooked Budget Office has a terrible record with its predictions and hasn’t earned the attention the media gives it."

C'mon.

Like the only hospital in a rural area of Nebraska, now closing due to cuts in Medicaid. Stuff like that. That one won't just impact people on Medicaid; it will affect everyone in that area needing medical care.

Didn't say it wasnt. But I did ask the question of why. Many folks dont want to address that. There isnt any reason why this should happen with the amount of money and resources we spend on helping people.

Malnourishment isn't rhe same things as literally killing a child.

Yes, many are lying because they are making false claims. The rich are NOT receiving the highest tax cuts. Those that claim they are, are lying flat out.

And there is absolutely NOTHING in the bill that says anything about tax cuts being paid for by cuts to health insurance. Thats another lie.

There are no cuts to Medicaid.
