If the evidence supports the verdict, I don't see why they wouldn't. Then again, I can't speak for every democrat out there.

If the DOJ is being used to attack Trump's political opponents, then that would be weaponizing. Going after President Biden's administration for a crime that no one can prove even happened might qualify....but that would depend on how far they take it.
I think for the most part they're going to take the same stance of weaponization and lawfare. Which is where many seem to be right now.
If that's where Trump and the DOJ want to take this, then good luck getting a conviction without a defendant or any evidence. Unless they get that, this will all wind up being as much of a nothingburger as the entire President Biden "Big Guy" thing.
I think for the most part there's going to be insistence there was weaponizing and lawfare no matter how it's conducted. That's pretty much what's happening right now, and I think that's unlikely to change no matter what the scenario might be.
You're probably right about that. Although, to be fair, calling for an investigation despite no evidence whatsoever that there was any wrongdoing at all does kind of point toward it. In some circles, they call that a fishing expedition.
