  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey I just picked up a new flat screen TV for my apartment, this is slick! My TV came with WiFi, I was able to get it connected to my internet router wirelessly and now I can watch YouTube videos on my TV using the internet, I can watch anything on YouTube, any video or any music on YouTube! I go to 2 churches, Grace Chapel and Life Center, both live-stream their services on YouTube so if I ever miss church for any reason I can watch the service on my TV! Many churches live stream on YouTube, I now have access to any church's live stream in the entire world!

Hi. That must be great to be able to watch YouTube on your TV. Because screenshot accountability cannot be installed on a smart TV, I do not have the liberty of having a TV that can stream YouTube, so I usually end up connecting my laptop to the HDMI port to play YouTube on the TV. It is somewhat inconvenient to have to jump through this hoop to play YouTube on the TV rather than just being able to point the remote to the TV to play YouTube.

I use the Truple software on Android and my laptop which takes screenshots of my devices and shares them with friends who are accountability partners, so they can make sure I am not looking at anything inappropriate. Unfortunately accountability software cannot be installed on smart TVs, so I ended up buying a big screen Samsung TV from the thrift store that has no Internet and just can get basic channels received by the antenna, although I blocked the channels by screwing a terminal connector onto the antenna jack.

I am wanting to submit feedback to smart TV manufacturers including Samsung to make changes to smart TVs that would allow installing accountability software so that maybe in the future I can experience the convenience of a TV that has YouTube on it.

I apologize if my reply, where I shared that accountability software cannot be installed on TVs, detracted from your original post. Maybe there would be a way to have a smart TV or add a Roku streaming stick to my current TV and set up restrictions where only channels that were previously approved can be viewed on the TV. That way I could stream the International House of Prayer on my TV but block other objectionable content.

To my knowledge it isn’t possible. I have Roku televisions and the software is proprietary. You’d have to look for something that could be side loaded. The apps are downloaded and some keep track of your history like YouTube but it‘s easy to delete or can be turned off. Netflix, Hulu and Prime will highlight a show you’ve watched but you don’t see your history. You can explore the restrictions on a parental lock. That may be a workaround of sorts.

So when you are saying it isn't possible, do you mean that installing accountability software isn't possible, or are you saying that my second idea isn't possible - setting a 4 digit pin to prevent installing new channels, so that only channels that were previously approved or installed can be viewed?

I’ve never heard of anyone installing the software and devices are updated often. But you can check with a ministry that specializes in the subject. They’ll have more ideas along those lines than most. As for the pin, I‘m uncertain. I looked up Roku’s parental control and found a site with good information. While it’s geared for children there’s some helpful tips in tools and you could always email them if you have any questions.
