Can you back that with scripture or is that your opinion?
The most succinct scrip' I could find was 2 Cor 14:15..."For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God."

I believe that God sent Jesus into the world in order to unite ALL things in him.

Ephesians 1:10
As a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth.

There are multi purposes for his coming, depends on which scripture passage you prefer to focus on.

What was the purpose?
I'll let the scriptures speak for themselves.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.

1 John 3:8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

Why do you ask?

to bring division ...
Yes, that's another thing He came to do.

Matthew 10:32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. 33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. 34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

He came to divide the world into two groups. Those who are with Him and those who are against Him (saved and lost, righteous and wicked) and the two groups would not be at peace with each other.

Matthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

Jesus came to bring His followers together into one body (Ephesians 2:11-22) and to separate them from unbelievers. As Paul said..

2 Corinthians 6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Great question and harder than it seems. Here is part of God's purpose. Not just to expand salvation to all men but to show His wisdom. Part of this is how God crushes Satan and Satan's plan for man.

Ephesians 3:8-11 (NASB)
8 To me, the very least of all saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unfathomable riches of Christ,
9 and to bring to light what is the administration of the mystery which for ages has been hidden in God who created all things;
10 so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.
11 This was in accordance with the eternal purpose which He carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord,

Hebrews 2 also offers some clues.
Hebrews 2:9-16 (NASB)

9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone.
10 For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings.
11 For both He who sanctifies and those who are sanctified are all from one Father; for which reason He is not ashamed to call them brethren,
12 saying, "I WILL PROCLAIM YOUR NAME TO MY BRETHREN, IN THE MIDST OF THE CONGREGATION I WILL SING YOUR PRAISE."
13 And again, "I WILL PUT MY TRUST IN HIM." And again, "BEHOLD, I AND THE CHILDREN WHOM GOD HAS GIVEN ME."
14 Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
15 and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
16 For assuredly He does not give help to angels, but He gives help to the descendant of Abraham.

Jesus reversed the curse, took back everything that Adam lost (some parts now, other parts will manifest later.) Then he lifted mankind above the angels and made believers an heir of God.

Good day.

Matt 1:21 - She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.”

He came to save His people from their sins.

In Him,

Bill

Who do you think the term "his people" could refer to, given what he also said in Matthew 10:5-7 and Matthew 15:24?

Good day, Guojing

John 6:37 (All the ones given to him by the the father the given ones are the ones who come they are his people that would include Jews and Gentiles the other flock, those are the ones he will save.)

John 6:38, 39 For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day.

Jesus always with out fail does the will of the Father who sent him.

In Him

Bill

I think theres a number of reasons. One would be to restore creation back to God after its all. That in itself is an entire topic.

Another I think was to reveal God to humankind in the form of a man who was like us. This bridged the gap between man and God. Up until then humans had a yearning for God and expressed this in different ways. Often misplaced but none the less a natural expression of worship.

This was first done through Abraham when God declared He was the one true God and the first Covenant and was fullfilled in Christ. Christ was a real person who walked among us and in Him we seen God.

Another reason is related to the first two which is in the restoration of creation to Gods Kingdom humans are reborn and that rebirth can only happen by believing in Christ. For that to happen God had to have walked among us and not exist in another realm as the other gods.

That left an indelible mark in human history for which sprung Christianity. We can hear the eye witnesses and visit the places it happened. This is a tangible aspect of Christ in our history and not some distant god. This gives us a specific focus of who God is and through Christ we see His love and by accepting His grace we are saved.

I believe this was the only way and Christ came at the right time and place in our history for it to have greatest meaning and lasting affect. There is no doubt for everyone that a man named Christ who walked the earth around 2000 years ago. He claimed to be the Son of God and was crucified by Pilot.

Many witnessed his miracles and rising from the dead. This was such an impact that it caused the disciples and many Christians to go to their deaths proclaiming the truth of Christ.

It took this event to imprint into human history and psyche God among us and His message of salvation.
