Psalm 104:13-15

He watereth the hills from his chambers:
The earth is satisfied with the fruit of thy works.

He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle,
And herb for the service of man:

That he may bring forth food out of the earth;
And wine that maketh glad the heart of man,

And oil to make his face to shine, and bread
which strengtheneth man's heart.
x

Proverbs 21:17 (KJV)
He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man:
He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

Habakkuk 2:15 (KJV)
Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him ,
and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

^so, in moderation, it’s ok? That’s what I get from those verses.
Jesus was at a party and they ran out of wine so he made some and it was better than what they had

Yup! Wine, although far less alcoholic than our modern wine, was very much part of their culture because water was unsanitary.

^ Jesus was just listening to what his mother told him to do.
That also gets into Mary’s intercession…..but that’s a different theological topic. ;)

“Do whatever he tells you.”

^ Jesus was just listening to what his mother told him to do.
But His mother didn't tell Him to do anything. She merely told Him what the situation was:

“And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine."” (Joh 2:3 NKJV)

Do you have a biblical basis for saying that?
yes ... but to see it you must keep your eye single ... for example Jesus likened the wine as his blood, saying before he likened it as this, that his blood was drink indeed, which is just to say that it is the real thing, or it is true drink. or is not the shedding of blood the loosing of your soul one in the same picture of becoming clean ...

Thanks for replying. I know Jesus used wine as a symbol of His shed blood, but I don't see Him likening our souls to wine. Anyway, thanks again.

an issue of blood is the issue of our soul ...
Thanks again for replying. I think that, in the absence of Jesus or the apostles saying that wine represents the soul, it is too much of a stretch to say that because wine was used by Jesus to represent His shed blood, wine can also represent our souls.

our soul is pictured in a myriad of ways throughout the scripture ... but to see them you must keep your eye single ...

How much and how many times in His life? What kind of wine? How strong? You have no idea. So let us please stop using this as some kind of recommendation for regular drinking today, in our society. We are in no perfect health position to recommend another poison into our life already full of poisons.
I mean, if you know that you're going to die a violent death on a cross at age 33 and get a new body, maybe you don't need to be quite so concerned about preserving your liver function for as long as someone who might live to 90. Jesus also had to witness the horrors of sin each day in the full, up close and personal, and heal disease. Everywhere He turned was pain. Could He be blamed for having a drink?

Matthew 11:19 said:
The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a heavy drinker, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ And yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”

Isaiah 53:3 said:
He is despised and rejected by men,
A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.
And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him;
He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.

As for me, I got a family history of alcoholism, so I haven't touched a single drop of the stuff. No regrets - I need whatever brain cells trauma didn't kill and my family members' colons are all getting chopped up from cancer, so I don't need alcohol in my life. (I'm hoping to start a garden soon and stop eating processed food with carcinogens as much as possible.) I think God can use me better for kingdom purposes if I keep my wits about me. But that's my personal decision.

1 Corinthians 10:31 said:
Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all things for the glory of God.

By keeping the eye single, are you using that word in its older meaning, simple? Or are you saying that we should only use one eye to read the scriptures? Either way, I for one do not see that the bible teaches that wine is a picture of the soul. Sorry!

that which is single is simple as is the opposite being duality is confusion ... to keep ones eye single is one and the same as to keep the law of ones mind ... a law spoken as a commandment which caused the confusion in the beginning ...
