We have a pope.

Pope Leo XIV is the newly elected head of the Catholic Church and the first American-born pontiff. He was elected on May 8, 2025, following the death of Pope Francis. Before becoming pope, he was known as Robert Francis Prevost, a cardinal from Chicago who had extensive experience in missionary work, particularly in Peru. His choice of the name "Leo XIV" is inspired by Pope Leo XIII, who was known for his focus on social justice and reform.

Leo XIV has emphasised peace, dialogue, and missionary evangelisation in his early statements. His leadership style is expected to continue many of Pope Francis' priorities, including synodality—a collaborative approach to decision-making in the Church. His stance on key issues, such as LGBTQ+ inclusion, is still being observed, but advocates remain hopeful that he will follow Francis' path.

His formal installation as pope will take place at a mass in St. Peter’s Square on May 18.

One hopes for generosity and kindness to grow.
Yes, reaching those lost in sin should be a priority - having them come to repentance and leaving the profane lifestyle is a great goal.

Hate the sin, love the sinner is not what I would term a "trend."
"Inclusion of Gay People" is not "loving the sinner," in my opinion. Certainly, we would welcome sinners to come and hear the Gospel, but not to be included in the formal Church.

I'm not a Catholic. If "inclusion" involves "acceptance" of the Gay lifestyle, or even "being Gay," then I'm opposed to it and to any pope who may wish to do this.

Would anyone think that "Jesus said, 'I reject gay people' "?

Jesus is clear that the sinner is to turn from his sin (Jn 8:11, do not honor man more than God, 1 Sa 2:29),
and the one who does not turn is to be excluded from the fellowship (1 Co 5:13) until he does (2 Co 2:6-8).

The practice of homosexuality is sin (Ro 1:26-27).

The Law of Moses condemned the Gay lifestyle, and Jesus would've been in full agreement. Can Gay People be forgiven? Yes, they can be forgiven if they repent. Until then they should not be included in the Church as if their life choice is being approved of.

Moses and the law associated with Moses is obsolete.
Let God be judge and look out for your own way of life, sins, and forgiveness.

I hope he does. Francis was a beloved pope for many good reasons.
Francis severely damaged existing efforts toward Christian unity with his promotion of blessing homosexual "couples" and alienated and scandalized traditional Catholics with his anti-TLM policy, encouragement of people in mortal sin to take Holy Communion, promotion of religious pluralism, etc. And there's no telling how many potential converts he lost through these and other actions.

Pope Francis was the first in my lifetime whom I found inspiring and encouraging as a non-Catholic Christian. He helped me to see a Catholicism that could be a positive, life-giving church (when the two previous popes had left a very different impression). I look forward to seeing how his successor might build on that.

The Covenant of Law is obsolete. The morality expressing proper social relationships is *not* obsolete. The law prohibiting sexual immorality, adultery, fornication, bestiality, and homosexuality is not obsolete.

Well, thank you for your Orthodox perspective. I do not share it.
