God gave the law for 3 purposes

To make the world aware that all have sinned.
Only Adam and Eve who used live a sinless life (before their fall) knows the difference between sin and sinless. But everyone who comes after the fall, is born into sin and living in sin is a new norm. Nobody knows that they are living in sin. Therefore, God gave the law to make the world aware what is sin.

Romans 3:20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

To let the world know the standard of God and nobody can meet God’s standard.
To meet or pass God’s standard, we need to keep all the 10 laws (10 Commandments). Even in thought (just by thinking) without committing the sin physically, he/she has already sinned.

James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Brothers and Sisters in-Christ, if you are truly born-again in Christ, all our sins have been removed once and for all by one single sacrifice of Jesus Christ. If all our sins have been removed, we should not feel or be conscious of something that no longer exist.

Hebrews 10:2 Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.

Although we still sin after born-again (because we are still living in our old fallen body), we need to be reminded that our salvation, righteousness and holiness is a gift from God based on the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

When we failed and the devil comes roaring like a lion to accuse us in the battlefield of the law by calling our sins to consciousness, we need bring the devil to the battlefield of grace by declaring the goodness of God to us despite our unworthiness with praises to God and Jesus Christ.

Roaring lion says: Do you remember you reported your classmate of cheating? And now you are doing the exact same thing that he did. You are a hypocrite.

Our respond through grace: Indeed, I am a hypocrite and no better. But praises to God because he still chose to save and continually love a hypocrite like me. I boast of his faithfulness and unchanging love for me despite my failings.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me

Every time the devil comes to accuse us of our failing, we should not find excuses or beat ourselves up. But rather we should boast in our weakness because weakness qualifies and humble me for God’s power.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Every time the devil brings an accusation and condemnation, it is an opportunity to turn it into praises onto God.

Great post. I would add that true repentance is marked by a regenerated heart which will be made evident by the bearing of the fruits of the spirit.

When we failed and the devil comes roaring like a lion to accuse us in the battlefield of the law by calling our sins to consciousness, we need bring the devil to the battlefield of grace by declaring the goodness of God to us despite our unworthiness with praises to God and Jesus Christ.

Roaring lion says: Do you remember you reported your classmate of cheating? And now you are doing the exact same thing that he did. You are a hypocrite.

Our respond through grace: Indeed, I am a hypocrite and no better. But praises to God because he still chose to save and continually love a hypocrite like me. I boast of his faithfulness and unchanging love for me despite my failings.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me

Every time the devil comes to accuse us of our failing, we should not find excuses or beat ourselves up. But rather we should boast in our weakness because weakness qualifies and humble me for God’s power.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

Every time the devil brings an accusation and condemnation, it is an opportunity to turn it into praises onto God.

Under the law means "under the condemnation of the law" i.e. the wages of sin is death Rom 6:23
Which the whole world is accountable to God on Judgement Day based on our works 2 Cor 5:10 James 2:10-12 Ecc 12:13-14 Rev 14:7 Rev 22:14-15 Mat 7:21-23, we are not saved by our works, but our works demonstrate if one has been transformed through Jesus.

Romans 3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

The issue is not the law, it is holy, just and good Rom 7:12, which we are to be like i.e. producing good fruit , perfect for converting the soul and leading us to Jesus Psa 19:7 continuing in sin (Breaking God's law) is the path that leads to destruction unless we have a change of heart, through true repentance which means a change of direction.

Paul makes these distinctions clear:

Gal 5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. The condemnation of the law Rom 3:19, not the law itself as Paul clearly shows....

19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God

Jesus taught the same thing
Mat 7:21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ (believers) shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

The law can't save us but is like a moral compass so we can see our sin and not cover them which Scripture warns Pro 28:13 and see God's righteousness Psa 119:172 and see which path we are on Rom 6:16 Rev 22:14-15 and hopefully ask Jesus to make a change in our life before it's too late.

I am not sure how your title reflects what Jesus taught, Jesus seemed to teach the opposite. The law attracts the devil while grace repels him

Jesus said If you love Me, keep My commandments. The issue is not the law, its lack of love. 1 John 5:3 Exo 20:6 John 15:10

Breaking God's law is sin 1 John 3:4 and sin if of the devil 1 John 3:8 so we need to be careful which spirit we are listening to.

Grace is not a license to break God's law and sin

Rom 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin(break God's law) that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

Jesus doesn't just save us from the penalty of sin, He saves us from the power of sin and through His we can overcome. Revelations speaks of this at least 7 times. Its the devil who has deceived so many thinking he has more power to keep us in sin than Jesus does to save us from it. 1 John 3:8

Just a few questions considering the following Scripture, please:

Revelation 12:9-10 NIV

What exactly is Satan accusing us of?

Are you indicating that because Satan accuses us day and night of all kinds of things that it negates what Jesus asks of us- repent of sin because the Kingdom of God is at hand, If you love Me, keep My commandment? The last thing we want to do is prove Satan right by his accusations.

This is Christ response that is in line with His gospel message of repenting and overcoming


Rev 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

What do the overcomers do?

Rev 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.

Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.

God has a people who overcomes who repent and turn from their sins obeying God's law through faith.

Lawlessness, the title of this thread, is not the answer Mat 7:21-23

It's more than that. God doesn't command anything that is impossible to obey. To finish your statement, it should read like this:

Most believers in grace that I know do indeed love the laws of God for many reasons, including yours.

It is absolutely true that the Accuser just loves to throw the law at the *brethren*, because it lures us to take our eyes off of Jesus and onto ourselves -
First you need to define the law here, because there are lots of laws in Scripture. The Ten Commandments, what defines sin 1 John 3:4 Rom 7:7 James 2:10-12 written by the finger of God, His personal Testimony Exo 31:18 the devil does use this law, but not in the way you are describing. The devil uses the law by teaching people it is impossible to keep, that we only need to keep 8 or 9 of these commandments, we don't need a law, we have our own law, we keep our own righteousness, we don't need God's Psa119:172 by keeping God's law- God is bewitching us, the law leads us away from God, these are all arguments he uses against obeying God's law, but in reality it's the opposite

Psa 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

Amen! But we still have to cooperate with Him. If we are not willing to obey Him, He will never force us to. Why most of His promises are conditional

Jesus is a Person, but He is also a King. A King has laws, and God did not leave it up to man to write these laws- He personally wrote them, He personally spoke them, He called them His Testimony. Exo 31:18 The whole bible is about the testimony of Jesus, but when it comes to His own Testimony so many choose not to beleive Him.

The devil has been attacking these laws from the beginning 1 John 3:8 and Scripture tells us whoever we obey is who we serve Rom 6:16, lets obey God and serve Him the way He asks and love Him with all our heart soul and might and delight to do His will by living out His law He wrote in our hearts.

And yet we're not under the law but under grace, grace being the life of the Vine is us now that enables us to overcome sin and meet the "rigtheous requirements of the law", the right way, His way, apart from the law. That connection to the Vine (the very basis of justice/righteousness for man) is the primary difference between the old and new covenants:

"I will be their God and they will be my people"

"No longer will they teach their neighbor,
or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest,”
declares the Lord."
Jer 31:33-34

And the law to be obeyed, as confirmed in Rom 7, 13, Matt 19, etc, as you've mentioned, is the ten commandments, further summed up best by the two greatest. And this is why the churches continued to carry down and teach both, the ten and the greatest, as obligatory while acknowledging that the grace of the Holy Spirit is essential in their fulfillment. This is, simply, how the early church received it.

Exactly, and what does someone do who is connected to the Vine?

John 15: 5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you[b] will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

There is an "If" there because its conditional on our cooperation

Christ had ushered in a totally new way, with a new freedom, tied to the old way but with our being directly in union with, subservient to, and obedient to God the Holy Spirit first of all, connected to the Vine- in order to be able to truly and authentically live out the old way's righteous directives and requirements.

Grace was not exclusive to the NC. Gen 6:8

Yes, there is no condemnation if we are walking in the Spirit, those who are doing so are not an enmity to God or His law Rom 8:7-8 and there is no condemnation if one is keeping God's law through love and faith and His power John 14:15-18

You left out some context that Paul didn't starting in verse 14. The law that is contrary and against is not the Sabbath commandment. Basically, this is saying that God was against man at Creation when the Sabbath was instituted and made for mankind. Exo 20:11 Mark 2:27 There is more than one Sabbath in the Scriptures and Paul is pointing to the sabbath(s) he was referring to Deut 31:24-28 something handwritten, that is an ordinance and contrary and against which does not fit the description of the weekly Sabbath commandment, finger written by God, that is holy sanctified by God and blessed by God, that no man can reverse Num 23:20, not even Paul, nor would he.. Paul does not have the authority to change God's times and laws that God said He would not, that's the other spirit we were warned about Dan 7:25. God said not a jot or tittle Mat 5:18 Psa 89:34 and He keeps His promises.

Its almost as if you are saying if in Christ we are in rebellion to Him and breaking His law, but that's not what the Scriptures teach.
I have no idea what you're saying here, as it should be clear enough from what I've said that Christ is the one who finally makes possible the keeping of the law.
Not does Paul have the authority to change God's times and laws that God said He would not. Not a jot or tittle Mat 5:18 Psa 89:34
Christ, who is God, has just that authority. And that's the only reason why Paul and the church could've and would've accepted this new, Christian way, of observance.

The New Covenant is established on better promises Heb 8:6 most people teach the NC was established on better laws, but this is not biblical. It still has God's law now written in the believers heart and mind Heb 8:10

The old covenant was based on the people doing Exo 19:8, the New Covenant is based on what God does Heb 8:10 John 14:15-18. He empowers His believer to keep His laws and not sin, by His power. We still have to be willing to cooperate with Him.

Some of the better promises we see in the New Covenant

- Jesus is our High Priest- we no longer need to bring to an earthy priest an animal sacrifice when we sin and break God's law. We can go directly to Jesus when we sin and have a sorry heart and repent and through His blood and great Sacrifice, He promises us to cleanse us of all sin and unrighteousness and if we are connected to His Spirit, He is the one enabling us to keep His commandments John 14:15-18

-Jesus is our Mediator, we can go directly to Him, no need for an earthy one.

- In the New Covenant God's law went from written on stone, to written in the heart 2 Cor 3:3 Exo 20:6 Exo 31:18 Heb 8:10 so it is part of who we are as long as we don't let someone else change our minds and rebel. Rom 8:7-8

Exo 34:28 So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he neither ate bread nor drank water. And He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

Not a jot or tittle will pass Mat 5:18-19 because no one is above God's own personal will and Testimony Exo 31:18 Psa 40:8. The whole bible is about the testimony of Jesus, but when it comes to His own personal will and Testimony, people don't believe. We are told why this happens, but I still find it very strange.

Why in the NC it is still a sin to break God's law 1 John 3:4 Rom 7:7 James 2:10-12 Mat 5:19-30 and God's law is what all man will be judged by James 2:10-12 Ecc 12:13-14 Rev 22:14-15 Mat 5:19-30 why we see God's ark, which holds the Ten Commandments, that sits under His mercy seat, which I would not want to remove anything He covers Exo 20:6 Pro 13:28 at the last trumpet before His Second Coming Rev 11:19

Amen! Because grace was never a license to sin and keep breaking God's law. As Paul clearly teaches

Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

"The law attracts the devil while grace repels him" How does the title relate to what Jesus taught about keeping God's law? As if the law and grace are at odds when they work perfectly in harmony, since we all have sinned.

We can take an example of this right from the teachings of Jesus. When He healed He gave grace, but what did He say after that? Go and sin no more- so right back under the law.



First you need to define the law here, because there are lots of laws in Scripture. The Ten Commandments, what defines sin 1 John 3:4 Rom 7:7 James 2:10-12 written by the finger of God, His personal Testimony Exo 31:18 the devil does use this law, but not in the way you are describing. The devil uses the law by teaching people it is impossible to keep, that we only need to keep 8 or 9 of these commandments, we don't need a law, we have our own law, we keep our own righteousness, we don't need God's Psa119:172 by keeping God's law- God is bewitching us, the law leads us away from God, these are all arguments he uses against obeying God's law, but in reality it's the opposite

Psa 19:7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple;

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments.
John 15:10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.



You seem to be misunderstanding what Paul is teaching- which law is Paul quoting and why is he quoting it for what reason were the Galatians using this law for?

Yes, the Ten Commandment summarized, which the whole bible hangs on, how to love God, how to love man, not up to each induvial and their version of love. Exo 20:6 John 14:15 1 John 5:2-3

Yes, this whole chapter shows the difference of living in flesh i.e. not being subject to God's law Rom 8:7-8 and living in the Spirit which gives peace Isa 48:18 and life Mat 19:17-19 Rev 22:14

Jesus is a Person, but He is also a King. A King has laws, and God did not leave it up to man to write these laws- He personally wrote them, He personally spoke them, He called them His Testimony. Exo 31:18 The whole bible is about the testimony of Jesus, but when it comes to His own Testimony so many choose not to beleive Him.

The devil has been attacking these laws from the beginning 1 John 3:8 and Scripture tells us whoever we obey is who we serve Rom 6:16, lets obey God and serve Him the way He asks and love Him with all our heart soul and might and delight to do His will by living out His law He wrote in our hearts.

Lets not the devil deceive us that we can love Jesus and disobey Him by breaking His law. This was the first lie in the garden that we can disobey God and live, the opposite of what God said.

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:

Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.
14 For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.

This is what we want to hear when Jesus comes, why its in the last book of the bible, in the last chapter, right before the Revelation of Jesus Christ


Rev 22:14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.
