  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Teen deported to El Salvador for just being Venezuelan.

ICE grabbed the wrong person but instead of releasing him or allowing him to be treated as a normal illegal immigrant knowingly and deliberately shopped him of to the El Salvador Concentration camp.

No tattoos, no criminal records, they was are acting as the Gestapo.

It sounds like you've never actually experienced what the Gestapo did to their prisoners? If he's innocent I'm sure El Salvador will allow Venezuela to pick him up.

It sounds like you're minimizing the problem. Unless, maybe I'm forgetting, the Gestapo did NOT have trials when they imprisoned people.....
did they?

I'm not ... but comparing the accidental deportation of an illegal Venezuela citizen to El Salvador to the Gestapo is historical revisionism at worst or ignorance at best. The Gestapo was not involved in the deportation of illegals.

It seems the Venezuela citizen was sent on the wrong transport; that's a mistake - I'm sure they will try to correct that in the future. If he's not a criminal and the USA won't pay for its detention in El Salvador anymore, I see no reason why El Salvador won't allow him to return to Venezuela.

Or are you objecting to deportations of anyone who crosses a border illegally in general?

Sorry. Let's try again.

Did the Gestapo remove folks' personal freedoms AFTER a criminal trial or without a trial?

Just because ICE didn't toss these guys into traincars, doesn't mean trialless deportation should not be problematic.

I don’t know what makes you so sure. When’s the last time this administration admitted to and corrected a mistake they made? There’s a very high profile case of another deportation mistake by this administration and they are showing they’re completely recalcitrant and unwilling to correct their mistake.

Several thousand people died at the hands of the Gestapo in my home country where they arrested, tortured and executed people deemed a threat to the Nazi regime, and that's even apart from the 100k Jews also deported to the concentration camp for extermination by this agency in this country.

Comparing that to ICE deporting illegal residents is nuts.

Someone stopped at an airport without a passport or visa is refused or sent back without a trial, removing illegal residents does not require a trial AFAIK.

DOGE would advocate to release a prisoner that needs to be paid for in El Salvador ... why pay for someone who doesn't require detention there?

Except that they are not just being deported but sent to what is effectively a concentration camp, no due process, no trial, with the dictator promising to keep them there until they die.

I'm puzzled by the resistance of several here to even remove illegal residents from your own country - what is your plan? Or maybe you don't even have that goal?

Maybe send them to the right country, for starters? Then we can go from there. This administration can’t even get the first step right.

Sending people to concentration camps run by dictators is by definition wrong, full stop.

I'm pretty sure they try to do that - but mistakes made can't be used to torpedo the plan altogether. The numbers they face are massive because previous admins have chosen to ignore that problem, or as it more seems, were accommodating it.

I have no opinion on that - any high volume affordable capable alternative plan is welcome I'm sure. Yet there is a stark contrast between the (com)passion from those who object against the alleged inhumane treatment of deportees, and the lack thereof to prevent this misery in the first place by blocking illegal entry.

I consider my contribution to this thread closed.

It sounds like authorities messed up and apprehended the wrong person. There's been numerous occasions over the decades where authorities have messed up and apprehended the wrong person. It's not something that only started happening 85 days ago.

I doubt they truly messed up. They're doing what Trump what's them to do.

Trump wants them to deport a handful of people who shouldn't have been deported? Because there's only been about a half dozen I've heard about.

They are illegal - I believe we can send them anywhere the US wants to get them out of the US. A lot of liberal garbage talk (as usual) going around here.
