  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you believe that Trump has an ACTUAL plan?

Do you believe that Trump has, not a vision, but a plan to make his vision a reality?

Because I voted for him. I wouldn't have voted for him if I didn't think he had the ability to do what is right. Does that mean he will? Maybe not, but I hope he does.
Your vote should follow from your sense of reality, not the other way around.

He may be a jerk and loudmouth but its all int intentional. Thats why over and over again he is found to be correct in his statements..
In what respects, precisely, has he been found correct in his statements? Can you please give us some examples? I have not studied his past in detail, but the belief out there in the air is that he has not been a particularly successful businessman in his career.

When he speaks, he certainly seems to lack the coherence and intellectual sophistication that would be required for the job. To me, the man is no more fit for the presidency than he is to run a lemonade stand.

I see no evidence that he's anything more than a con man. Mixed in with a strong dose of adolescent emotional immaturity.

But perhaps you can set us right, perhaps you can give us some hard, credible examples of where Donald Trump has demonstrated that he knows what he is doing. And I'm willing to settle for examples from any sphere of human activity.

I believe his plan is to push cash into treasuries, which forces the Fed to slash interest rates in May, and those lower rates give the Fed the ability to refinance trillions of debt very inexpensively. It also weakens the dollar and drops mortgage rates. It also forces farmers to sell more of their products here in the U.S., to bring grocery prices way down. We’ve already seen this with eggs. Now, remember, 94 percent of all stocks are owned only by eight percent of Americans. So Trump, he’s taking from the rich short term and handing it to the middle class through lower prices.
1. Nobody with a brain thought the eggs were going to stay that high and most people understood that this was a supply issue more than anything to do with tariffs. But sure is frustrating when your enemies do that hey? We had the same issue when Biden was in charge.
2) If prices go up and inflation increases because of the tariffs, why would the Feds slash the rate in May?
3) How will weakenning the dollar help the US OR make things cheaper for consumers?
4) More farmers selling grain internally will certainly lower the prices. But it will also mean farmers go bankrupt. It's not like farmers make a TONNE of money; forcing them to sell their grain for fractions of what they used to sell? Well, without signficant federal help (maybe dipping into those treasuries) there won't be a financial reason to farm ever again.
5) I would not argue he's taking ANYTHING from the rich though I understand your sentiment.
6) If tariffs increase the cost for the importer and increases the cost of production, I still need a bit of help understanding why those companies would then charge LESS For their products.

The tariffs forces companies to build here to dodge them.
1) ONLY if the cost of production is LESS THAN the cost of production abroad PLUS tariffs.
2) What about companies that build here that need things from abroad? They're building in the US.
It also forces farmers to sell more of their products here in the U.S., to bring grocery prices way down. We’ve already seen this with eggs.
Again, that was a supply issue. Destroying the machinery that makes a product drives the price down. That the machinery is being repaired and more eggs are being produced, it should not be a surprise the price is going down.

Now I wait to hear your arguments about why I am wrong and how the plan is stupid.
So a rebuttal. Like in a normal discussion.

It's getting difficult to even know what tariffs are in place in Canada at this point. Trump has turned tariffs on and off, what are we on, about 3 or 4 times now?

It seems reasonable to ask this question.

I am NOT asking about what Trump wants. IT's been outlined MANY times...he wants to bring manufacturing jobs back to the US. That is his VISION.

This poll and thread are about whether you believe he actually has a PLAN or if he's making it up as he goes along.

His own people are unaware of what is happenning.
https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/09/business/trump-top-trade-official-testifies-house-tariffs/index.html

If you DO believe he has a plan, I'm curious to hear how you believe the "on again off again tariffs" strategy is meant to further his plan.
He might or his advisors might. "Use tariffs to make tons of money for his people."

He can announce that he's gonna imposed tariffs in one week. His people move their money to bonds. The stock market drops several thousand points over that week. He then paused the tariffs and his people buy low and the Stock market soars.

His people get extremely rich while many Americans lose. Some plan.

Oh wow.
Well there you go. That's pretty good.

I remember reading something about bonds and their being "some concern that international players" are taking their bonds out.

But if there's a way to enrich his buddies, Trump will take it. So yeah.

I think you may be onto something. Now to convince all the working class that is what he is doing.

His budget plan involves trillions in additional debt.
His vision involves eliminating the deficit.

I think he goes with this gut and does what I've heard described as "reconnaissance through battle".

He'll get an idea and he'll think it is a good one. Instead of doing a lot of research he just goes with whatever the idea was.

If the idea starts going really badly he'll back off it or change it somewhat or try something else entirely. But if it is working even a little he'll keep going.

So he "laughs" at people seeing their retirement savings disappear?
Only a heartless person laughs at others' misfortunes.
Does he? I was just kidding.

The political caricature is not the real person.

Hi and welcome to CF and forum 909!
I’m fairly certain that you’re still allowed to change your mind about whether your decision in November 2024 was correct (or not).
Casting a ballot isn’t the same as signing a contract with a candidate to support every move that they might make in the future.

That’s true, but I voted for him over Harris. The people have spoken. They wanted Trump and he won fair and square.

49.9% of those who voted. About 1/3 of eligible voters.
Let's affirm also that Biden won fair and square in 2020--by 8 million votes--and he illegally tried to overthrow the election.

Let's say you are building a house. You (or other construction workers) make a mistake which will result in its inevitable collapse. Do you "move on" or repair what's broken before continuing.
In the face of democracy's collapse, moving on is not possible.
