This is why you should actively manage your 401k. I'm ok with it right now, but America needs a recession to bring down the overinflated asset prices and stock PE ratio. Yes, it was easy to see, and the reason I bought some inverse ETFs for a hedge. I made the mistake of not reacting to the GFC and lost a ton.

The market will do what it needs to do to maintain equilibrium, and Trump's tariffs helped it along. I hope millennials don't make the same mistake I did when I was their age.

I note your signature. Tariffs are usually to protect one sector or industry that country has rational geopolitical reasons for.

Now I THOUGHT America's and the democratic western alliance was concerned about the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Dictator Putin, and the rise of China threatening Taiwan - a democratic friend and where we get our computer chips from. Given how there's a new Cold War with China, I THOUGHT the bright idea would be to try and compete. They have a billion people working across vast production-line-cities. It's like Henry Ford's production line, but scaled up so that each 'widget' station is actually a city of 2 or 3 million people!

Our only hope in the face of such threats? Put tariffs on all Russian and Chinese products and encourage free trade across the democratic club of nations, so that if us Australians can do mining cheaper than you can you buy off us - and if you have a huge head start in software and Netflix - we buy off you. We all get richer. It's called friend-shoring - ensuring supply lines are with allies we've had at least since WW2.

What does Trump do? Yells at NATO members and threaten to pull out, yells at our democratic friend from Ukraine, parrots Putin, put tariffs on China AND all his former western allies, acts like America's the world's biggest victim when it's one of the world's biggest bullies - and then starts threatening to annex Canada, invade Greenland, and generally destroy everything the west used to stand for!

By whining like a victim Trump has made the strongest military alliance in the history of the world look weak and divided.

And NOW he magically expects a mere 330 million Americans to somehow compete with the economies of scale of that Chinese government backed, government planned 'production-line city' of 1.4 billion co-ordinated workers? It's a joke! Economists are saying the economic dashboard has red lights all the way across it - and Trump just stands there with a big cheesy grin and assures people that it's Independence Day! He thinks he's George Washington! His followers think he's a cross between Washington and Lincoln - but somehow so much more!

But he has betrayed the American people AND the western alliance that stood for generations. He will go down as the worst President in American history - that is IF we somehow get through this without him nuking us all back to the stone age!

Will there BE an America after his Regime? I hope so. For all our sakes.
