  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

IIRC vaccinated chicken and their products are problematic to trade because they might still carry the virus.
Biologically, that makes sense to me, eh?

I heard a lot of those vegan and other alternatives have a lot of chemicals in them. Maybe it’s just a carnivore conspiracy theory?

Yes.

Ground beef can have all kinds of chemicals and chemical treatments added, and generally it wouldn't be labelled as such.

If memory serves me, Just Eggs don't have any exotic ingredients in them that you wouldn't find in your pantry, except perhaps emulsifying gum and preservatives.

Oh, ok.

What about impossible burgers/impossible meat that are plant based? Do they have a large amount of chemicals and preservatives in them?

Not really. Not when you stop to consider all foods contain "chemicals".

If you mean, "artificial chemicals" and preservatives, they are more or less the same as alot of other similar foods you'ld find at a grocery store. Ground beef can have some of the exact same chemicals added, in fact, and it doesn't even have to be labelled as such.

A practical substitute for eggs in baking is to use 1/2 a banana or a quarter cup of apple sauce for one egg. This works well for cookies, brownies, and quickbreads.

Edible gums can also be used, and in fact, they are commonly used in Vegan mayonnaise substitutes and many processed foods people already consume. You can buy it in bulk at health food stores and sometimes in pharmacy sections of grocery stores. Partially hydrolised guar gum also has some health benefits, since it's a prebiotic fiber. 1/2 a teaspoon of guar gum, dissolved in 1/4 cup of water, substitutes for one egg. Acacia gum is also another edible gum sometimes used in food which can substitute as a binder, and it's also commonly used as a gum on envelopes and stamps.

Very interesting! Never knew those were substitutes for eggs. Then again, I don't cook nor bake.

Kind of like the vaccines against Covid-19, except of course that humans didn't have to be safe for consumption.

"Chemicals" is a pretty loaded word when describing food. Basically everything is made up of chemicals.

Vegans are often very health conscious. As for vegan egg alternatives, Just Egg includes the following ingredients:

Water, Mung bean protein isolate, Expeller-pressed canola oil, Sugars, (tapioca syrup, sugar), Soy lecithin, Tetrasodium pyrophosphate, Salt, Gellan gum, Potassium citrate, Carotene, Nisin, Transglutaminase, Natural flavors, Dehydrated onion, Turmeric.

In this case, the "chemical" is Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate, which gives the whole mass it's egg-like texture. It's pretty harmless unless eaten in excess, mostly because the body can't tolerate more than a certain amount of phosphate per day. But there's also phosphorus in many other things, including real eggs. So.. eh.

I tried Just Eggs scrambled years ago but they tasted strange. OTOH, I've had Just Egg more recently on a bagel sandwich and it seemed to work out alot better.

I prefer using tofu as a breakfast egg substitute. You take a block of soft tofu, mash it up, and cook it like scrambled eggs. It's good with some hash browns or potatoes and onions with hot sauce on top.

I've never understoof the need to replace meat with a meat-like substitute. I'm not a vegan, but if I were, what's wrong with eating stuff that looks and tastes that way?

If God didn't want us to to eat animals then why did he make them out of meat?

Water, Soy Protein Concentrate, Coconut Oil, Sunflower Oil, Natural Flavors, 2% or less of: Potato Protein, Methylcellulose, Yeast Extract, Cultured Dextrose, Food Starch Modified, Soy Leghemoglobin, Salt, Soy Protein Isolate, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Zinc Gluconate, Thiamine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B1), Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Niacin, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12.

"Slap a “plant-based protein” sticker on this thing and pop it onto every fast food menu in these here 50 states, but a soy burger is still a soy burger."

If you would not eat any of the ingredients alone, why would you want to eat them mixed together? Because of the label and marketing, of course. Just eat real food, not these lab-created experiments. What is real food you ask? Something that has just one ingredient or a very short list of ingredients your can actually recognize.
