  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

43 pounds = 19504 million milligrams.
it takes as low as 2 milligrams to kill a human being
that means enough fentanyl was taken from the northern border to kill almost 10 million adult humans.

but that is not alot. so who really cares (smh)

The mathematical analysis is excellent; however, my intention in online debates is not to engage in confrontations with provocative posts. I participate to have constructive and productive discussions. Your math is anything but productive.

Canada, like the United States, is engaged in a "war on drugs." Despite 50 years of efforts, victory remains elusive. The issue persists not due to governmental incapacity but because greed-driven individuals continue to exploit others for profit, making it difficult to eliminate illegal drugs from society.

Requesting Canada to address the issue of illegal drugs entering the United States is analogous to Canada requesting the U.S. government to prevent illegal firearms from entering Canada. The U.S. government does not export illegal firearms to Canada, just as the Canadian government does not send illegal drugs to the United States. Given the 5,000-mile border with minimal border enforcement on both sides, criminal activities exploit this situation, resulting in the smuggling of firearms into Canada and illegal drugs into the United States from Canada. There is limited action that either country can take to fully resolve this issue.

As many have already stated, only 0.5% of fentanyl enters the United States from Canada. It is unquestionably unrealistic to stop something that constitutes only 0.5%.
that 5% can kill 9 million people.. And it is more than this..

Biden and Trudeau tiptoe around immigration tensions on the northern border

President Joe Biden’s challenges along the southern border are spilling into his relationship with his northern partner ahead of his trip to Canada, as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau attempts to fend off his own critics concerned about a surge of migrants.
Pressure is mounting for Washington and Ottawa to finalize changes to a decades-old asylum agreement that would restrict certain migrants from seeking protections in Canada, sources told CNN.
While discussions have been ongoing for years, the sharp increase of people crossing into Canada from the US – some of whom are believed to have initially crossed the US southern border – has placed added urgency to talks.
They have been talking for decades -

Canada Avoids U.S. Tariffs for 30 Days as Border Measures Strengthened

“Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border,” wrote Trudeau in a social media post.
No more talk - 1.3 billion in action and it took three days, not decades.

0.5% is much less than 5%.

All efforts should be made to stop the drug traffickers. What this thread is about though is the idea that Trump got commitments to again work harder by his actions over 3 days when he had the same agreement by Canada back in December. And he could have approached Mexico , a large trading partner, and worked cooperatively and got the same response.

It’s not 5% it is 0.5%. 0.5% Fentanyl comes from Canada.

There may be some misunderstandings about Fentanyl. Fentanyl is not anthrax, it’s not airborne that it spreads person to person and kill . People have to purchase Fentanyl and consume it according to their own discretion. At some point, individuals should take responsibility.

Blaming Canada for certain issues in America may seem appealing for political reasons, but it does not provide any real solutions. It fails to help those affected, including individuals suffering from drug overdoses.

Why are some people suddenly defenders of the drug trade?

'Oh we can't do anything it's those pesky criminals.. what do you mean ask another country to enforce the law... That's mean...what do you mean deport the cartels and drug traffickers from America, that's racist.'

We can't stop drug trafficking by doing nothing. Doing nothing just ensures another million dead in a few years and another 10 - 20 million addicts with no ability to live a normal life.

At this rate America will fall in no time. I think we should stop listening to the voices that got us here.

No. He did not make a mistake. I am not behind the drug trade.

But stuff like fentanyl and all that kind of stuff? You better believe I want the government on top of it making it near impossible to even get.
Making drugs almost impossible to get is so very important.

I have no doubt that Trump thought the same when he was so dedicated to getting the creator of Silkroad freed, despite knowing his platform was knowingly used to sell millions of dollars worth of drugs to your beloved countrymen….. oh wait….

I haven't seen anyone in this thread defend the drug trade.

I never saw anyone openly advocate for open borders either but it's what you get when you speak and act against every measure anyone could take to defend it.

Now it's back with the drug trade.

No border law got us 12 million foreign aliens, mainly fighting age men from mainly countries we are enemies and/or at war with, in 4 short years.

How many dead people do you think fighting against drug trafficking enforcement will get us?

Does it bother anyone?

Do dead Americans bother anyone at all or do we have to fight for every single line, every single time to get even the smallest amount of law enforcement?

Just enough to kill every man woman and child in America,- or get every man woman and child addicted in a month?

It's killing Americans, it's made specifically to kill Americans and CANADA AND MEXICO are complicit.

They can be on our side, or the side of our enemies.
The flow of drugs across the boarder goes both ways

In the first 10 months of 2024, the Canadian border service reported seizing 10.8lb (4.9kg) of fentanyl entering from the US, while US Border Patrol intercepted 32.1lb (14.6kg) of fentanyl coming from Canada.

Considering the population size of the USA vs Canada, that’s 0.009lbs per capita of fentanyl Canada is letting across your boarder, but 0.02lbs per capita you are letting across theirs.

If you claim Canada is willingly complicit in killing your countrymen by ‘pushing drugs on them’, you have even more blood on your hands.

Regardless - it took the President three days and a backbone to get actions from two countries who have been giving little more than lip service for decades.

Efforts to make that seem like an actual concern are perversely illogical.

If you ACTUALLY cared, you'd also know that the flow of drugs FROM your country into Canada is a far bigger problem.

And those stupid guns you have....all over? They flow into our country too.

If you're poop hole country could get it's act together so all your destructive garbage doesn't bounce out of their and start affecting our lives, that'd be lovely.

Sadly, you are richer and you have a bully in charge so you get to dellude yourself into thinking "Everyone else is the problem".

Because it's Canadian fentanyl on your streets. Come on. Smarten up people.

How fentanyl has poisoned relations between the US and Canada.

I’m sure the families of those killed will find that very comforting.
I wonder how the number of Canadians killed by guns illicitly smuggled in from the US stacks up against the number of Americans who died from this 0.2% of the fentanyl coming in from Canada.

"A trade deficit simply means a country is importing more than it is exporting. As the Congressional Research Service reported in 2018, Trump’s fixation on reversing the deficit “contrasts with the views of most economists.”
"No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? " --Trump

The first comment was back from 2018. It has always been about the trade deficits that he doesn't understand.

Or.... perhaps he understands and want to eliminate the deficits. Almost like making it a fixation on balancing the scales, so the American taxpayer is benefitted -

The entire thread is misleading, highlighting a key issue in democracies where voters tend to uncritically follow and support every action and policy of the politicians they have elected.

This is why it is crucial for both supporters and critics to allow a leader's policy the opportunity to succeed or fail before offering praise or criticism. President Trump's efforts neither succeeded nor failed after three days, as reflected in the thread title.

These negotiations have been ongoing for only a month, with both sides vying for advantage. We need more time to see the outcome.

However, the uncertainty is significantly impacting the economy in North America. Both sides will face consequences, and the goal of reducing 0.5% Fentanyl coming from Canada may seem insignificant.

The population of the US is eight times larger than that of Canada. Reducing the trade deficit between Canada and the US is mathematically impossible.
