  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sure... he says thingsa you like.

It doesn't matter if it's real you agree with him or differ to him.

I used to be alright with Justin but I've grown to dislike him as a leader so your comment is pretty meaningless.
I don't like President Donald Trump because of what he says. I like him because of what he has done, and will do, in order to make the USA stronger and more prosperous than we have ever been before.

Canada's gone, annexed to Asia (China/India). All our homeless dying in the streets from fentanyl poisoning are multi-generational Canadians while govt spends billions on migrants in hotels. Govt offices employ mostly migrants. In 2015 Trudeau said Canada has no core identity and is a post-national state. Currently Trudeau has prorogued parliament so they can install a new prime minister. Our next prime minister will most likely be Mark Carney, a former banker who I don't think will be able to sit in Parliament because he's unelected (doesn't have a seat). As an 8th generation Canadian, I'm all for Canada becoming 51st state under Trump, for the future of our kids, hopefully starting in the province of Alberta. I mean look who was running for Prime Minister: https://x.com/i/status/1877369746963968081

I am MUCH happier with President Donald Trump than I would be of Justin Trudeau if I were Canadian, or of Keir Starmer if I were British.
Well, of course you are. But that isn't a rebuttal.

Oh no.

You're one of those.

Well I'm sure you've already been asked, why don't you move there?

Though I imagine you're in alberta and actually believe Danielle Smith knows how to run this province.

The money came from the federal government, i.e., American taxpayers. That money shall now be recouped via the mineral rights trade deal with Ukraine.
How much was money and how much was discontinued equipment that we were replacing anyway?

I thought Macron said that it was not a loan from France.

In some opinions so is the country of Canada. But some can see both positive and negative in every nation and every leader.

How much the United States has changed since President Reagan called it the shining city on the hill. Today, the US demand that a worn-torn ally must provide compensation before receiving defense support from America.

Except there are no promises from the US, we just demanded compensation for what we previously gave them (and more compensation than what was given).

Are you suggesting that the USA doesn't try to repaid for the hundreds of billions of dollars of money, ammunition, and equipment which we sent to Ukraine? The European nations sent their money to Ukraine as a loan, whereas the Biden administration stupidly gave our money away as a grant.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has agreed to a draft of a minerals deal with the White House, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday. Trump told reporters that the Ukrainian leader plans to travel to D.C. on Friday to meet with him after the officials agreed to the terms of the deal, which was first reported by Reuters. The U.S. president added that the two leaders are "just in the process of negotiating."

"We've pretty much negotiated our deal on earth [minerals] and various other things," Trump said. "We'll be looking…. general security for Ukraine later on. I don't think that's going to be a problem. There are a lot of people that want to do it, and I spoke with Russia about it. They didn't seem to have a problem with it. So I think they understand they're not going back. And once we do this, they're not going back."

The pact, which would involve giving the U.S. access to natural resources in exchange for America’s support of Ukraine amid its war with Russia, was days in the making. Trump said on Friday that his administration was "pretty close" to striking a deal, and on Monday, he hinted that a meeting between him and Zelenskyy was imminent.

It was not just the Biden administration; Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell also sent aid to Ukraine. Every time, it was a bipartisan bill to send aid to Ukraine.

This policy has been upheld by the United States since World War II, extending beyond the Biden administration. The United States is committed to defending democracy globally and supporting its allies, irrespective of their economic status.

Taiwan does not have significant resources to offer the United States. Taiwan's GDP is less than 900 billion USD. Does this mean if China invades Taiwan, the United States won't assist because Taiwan has nothing to offer in return?

Israel does not have financial resources to reciprocate the aid provided by the United States. The principal factor in Israel's favor is the strong support from a majority of Americans. However, if domestic policies in the USA were to change, Israel could potentially face challenges similar to those Ukraine is experiencing today. Without the ability to offer anything in return, Israel may find itself isolated and reliant solely on its own resources.

This type of policy will have significant consequences in the future. Other countries will reconsider forming a defense alliance with the US.

I have not reviewed the specifics of the deal, so I will refrain from commenting on it for now.

However, my concern is that we might be altering a core aspect of US foreign policy that has been a cornerstone for the past 80 years. I would support such a reversal if it benefits the US, but this policy sends a dangerous message to other US allies. It implies that unless a country is wealthy enough to repay the US, it cannot rely on American support. Countries like Taiwan or Israel, which may not have substantial resources to offer, could thus find it challenging to depend on US commitment to their defense.

This also sends a message to other powerful countries that they can invade their neighbors whenever they want, and the US will remain silent, unless US get paid for their assistance.

No matter how much peace, stability and prosperity Trump brings, there will be a negative spin on it.

It appears that you may have difficulty accepting criticism of President Trump, irrespective of whether the points raised are valid or not.

Just like the European nations who gave loans. Is it ok for them and not for us?

Just like the European nations who gave loans. Is it ok for them and not for us?

I am focusing on American foreign policy over the past 80 years and its possible direction for the next 80 years, not Europe or any other country. “whataboutism” has no place in American foreign policy.

American foreign policy, which began in 1941 with the Lend-Lease Act, has been a successful initiative over the past 83 years. Our involvement in Europe through Lend-Lease and subsequent full support by 1942 contributed significantly to the victory in World War II, the Cold War, and ultimately established the United States as the sole superpower.

The global democracy often regards the United States as a model for democracy because of its unwavering commitment to the principles of freedom and democracy, irrespective of geographic boundaries. These core values hold greater significance for Americans than wealth. This dedication also underpins America's role in forging the most formidable alliance in history.

The shining city on the hill signaled that America will defend democracy and its allies, but for a price. This will not go unnoticed by the rest of the world.
