  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Lots of mistakes were made by globalists who were in the first Trump administration. Why do you think 9 million dollars ain't too much money for a simple project like the one we are debating?
Without knowing the specs, we really aren't in the position to judge whether that was too much or a bargain. Going off a blurb to judge seems ... less than ... well informed. I can't tell if you believe that cyber security for citizens shouldn't be done at all or should be done on the cheap.

And they were fired because they hadn't been doing their jobs....
That has not been demonstrated.

As many have noted, there doesn't seem to be much (any?) fraud/misuse being uncovered by DOGE's activities. Just getting rid of things Elon Musk doesn't like.

Trump's Executive Orders (to the extent they hold up in court) made certain things illegal to spend money on that were previously legal to spend money on. There was no fraudulent use of money for the IGs to find in DEI, for example.

Fraud, WASTE, and abuse. It is, after all, OUR tax money that is being spent.....unless YOU don't pay taxes. And the president was elected by those of us who most definitely want this stopped....now!

Sorry, you'll have to wait until the next election for your vote to count.

Your meme implies that there’s some great overarching “plan”, there ain’t.
Oh, to be sure there was the plan to gut the government of all “unnecessary workers”, but they’re finding that there’s precious few of those.

DOGE Removes Biggest Spending Cuts From Wall Of Receipts; Here’s What It Could Mean For DOGE Dividend Checks
Last week, DOGE proudly posted a "wall of receipts," showcasing its biggest cost-cutting victories. Immediately, organizations including the New York Times, Washington Post, Politico and others started fact-checking and found that the list was riddled with errors. Earlier today, The New York Times reported that DOGE has deleted all of the five biggest savings on that original list, quietly. The errors range from simple miscalculations to outright misrepresentations of government contracts. And yet, despite backtracking on its initial figures, DOGE now claims it has saved $65 billion (up from $55 billion a few days ago) —without any clear explanation of how it reached that number.

“The 'wall of receipts’ is the only public ledger the organization has produced to document its work,” The Times notes. “The scale of that ledger’s errors — and the misunderstandings and poor quality control that seemed to underlie them — has raised questions about the effort’s broader work, which has led to mass firings and cutbacks across the federal government.”
I remember a poster coming on here disparaging public employees for being lazy and ineffective. My response is that there are terrible people in every job.

So it should come as exactly 0 surprise that Trump and Ebones selected individuals with no plan or background knowledge.

And now there's no accountability for what's happening. We are given a number and told, that's it.

That's not accountability.

No, seriously. Zeroing out this program will remove health care from veterans.

DOGE to cancel government contracts that help veterans, records show

Records show the 875 contracts included support for medical and burial services, cancer programs and efforts to recruit doctors for critical vacancies

Veterans Affairs Secretary Douglas A. Collins took to social media on Tuesday to tout sweeping cuts to contracts that he said would save the department nearly $2 billion without touching core services.

But the 875 contracts on the chopping block help cover medical services, fund cancer programs, recruit doctors and provide burial services to veterans, according to internal VA documents.

[Sen] Blumenthal in an emailed statement about the cancellations late Tuesday listed contracts used to conduct outreach to veterans and their families about burial services; and to recruit doctors and other medical workers to hard-to-staff areas among the cuts.

These services matched terminated programs contained in an excel spreadsheet of the contracts maintained by VA employees, which was reviewed by The Washington Post.

Another supported environmental testing to meet the Joint Commission’s safety standards. “Failure to do so may lead to facility closure and hospital acquired infections,” according to internal documents reviewed by The Post.

Look at all of the homeless veterans that have not been taken care of. Time to get rid of the fraud, to stop all of the kickbacks. There is no reason for politically connected companies to keep getting the contracts. The billions in savings can be used to help our veterans.

This "Black is White" stuff just isn't persuasive. #1 some of these things being cut are clearly helping veterans. #2 the stated goal of this process is not to redirect spending, but to cut spending. These savings are part of the House plan to partially pay for the tax cuts.

Please correct me if I am mistaken, but are conservatives advocating for a welfare system that supports individuals who are capable of working yet choose to stay at home and watch television?

Firing the newly hired and recently promoted (less than 2 years) is not "finding unnecessary workers", it is just a crude "reduction in force" without thought about who or what is actually needed.

As I think about it, I have to wonder how many billions of government money Musk has personally received? We know that Musk gets billions of dollars in payments from Tesla, Space X, and his other companies, and that these companies have received billions in federal revenue (in terms of SpaceX, billions every year). So it seems like, if we are going to eliminate government waste, shouldn't Musk return the billions he's personally been paid from his businesses that have directly come from government payments?

This included cancelling a $3M contract for “organizational culture training” to instruct VA leadership on what culture and values they should have.
