  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay. I am just going to come out and say it. In my opinion, if you were defending Joe Biden for pardoning his son, you should be disqualified from having an opinion on this thread. Take it as you may.

Not really.

The DOJ and Trump administration's push to end Erick Adam's investigation shows the politicization of the justice system.
Calling it politicization in such an instance fits, whereas calling it weaponization doesn't.

No. That is not what I said. If someone supported Biden's decision to pardon his son, they have lost the moral authority and are therefore not credible speaking on this topic. This all becomes just a game in which we are merely cheerleading our teams at the cost of integrity.

Yes, I've already acknowledged that Biden pardoned his son. My belief doesn't affect the legality of it as presidents do currently have that power. As much as it was to his credit to not interfere in either the prosecution or sentencing of his son, I think he shouldn't have pardoned him. Why is this important to note in this thread when there are already threads addressing that?

Suspending a prosecution, which is what this thread is about, to coerce a government official to comply with political policies - which have absolutely nothing to do with the charges at hand - is corrupt Banana Republic crap.

Hunter Biden's prosecution was politically motivated and would not have occurred if he were not the President's son.

If I were President and my son faced the same treatment as Hunter Biden, I would pardon him too. I don't blame President Biden for pardoning Hunter Biden.

However, this is not the entire scope of the pardon issue. President Biden granted pardons to family members and associates, such as Milley and Fauci, who had not been convicted of any crimes. This action raises concerns about potential abuse of power, as it appears to be a blanket pardon for his allies.

You are correct. It appears that President Trump is using his political power and office to halt the investigation of the NYC mayor, who is his political ally, similar to actions observed in banana republic.

My point is that when we criticize a president, whether they are Democratic or Republican, we should remain objective. Unfortunately, we live in a country where some people believe their candidate can do no wrong, even if the candidate refuse to give up top-secret documents after leaving office, while they view the other candidate as a mastermind of corruption because the son of the candidate works for an oil company in Ukraine.

So it is your objective opinion that justice should be avoided as long as nepotism is involved? What are your thought about Trump pardoning his family members?

The investigation is not what was halted as the investigation was completed which resulted in a grand jury indictment. The prosecution of the case by the Southern District of NY was halted by the Trump DOJ.

Annually, 25 to 30 million background checks are conducted for gun applications. Fewer than 300 people are prosecuted for falsifying gun applications each year, typically those with serious charges like aggravated robbery.

The prosecution of Hunter Biden has drawn attention due to his father's position. if Hunter Biden were an ordinary person, he might not have faced scrutiny for what he wrote on his application.

Yeah, and Donald Trumps 34 count convictions in a kangaroo court were for the exact same reasons. What is your point? You cannot have your cake and eat it too. You cannot be in favor of Trump's prosecution while simultaneously defending Biden's pardon of his son.

I never stated that the 34 counts of conviction are not politically motivated. The case in New York led by Alvin Bragg was political motives. If Donald Trump had remained solely a real estate mogul in NYC as he was for the first 40 years of his life, it is unlikely that anyone would pursue him legally. In fact, various officials from the District Attorney to the Police Commissioner, to the Mayor, and even senators in NYC, all appreciated Donald Trump’s friendship and desired his financial contributions. Once Donald Trump launched his campaign, he became a political target.

I have no problem criticizing Democrats or Republicans when they are wrong. However, when I criticize Republicans, some perceive me as a left-wing-baby-killing-woke-socialist, while when I criticize Democrats, they view me as MAGA who support President Trump no matter what. It’s actually fun to criticize both side and see the reaction.

The unfortunate reality is that both sides are so convinced of their correctness that they fail to recognize their own shortcomings. This mindset impedes the country's progress. It is crucial to acknowledge that individuals on both sides aspire for a better America. Not everyone on the left advocates for socialism, nor are all those on the right white supremacists. We possess differing opinions or approaches, but our shared goal is to improve America and the world beyond what our predecessors achieved.

That was not a kangaroo court. There was an investigation for a number of years, primarily by DA Cyrus Vance's office. The evidence was given to a grand jury which resulted in an indictment. There was a trial which Trump had representation; his lawyers helped choose the jury. His defense was presented to said jury which, nonetheless, returned a 34 count guilty. There were multiple appeals by Trump. He was sentenced to no time, no probation, no punishment whatsoever. NYS laws were broken by Trump; he is a convicted felon.
