We get Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in each species. So if anyone wants to forego the chalice, you are not missing anything.
This is true. Some people with celiac disease receive the Precious Blood alone.

I was never much of a wine drinker. Mass was one of the few times and places. So now whenever I drink wine, feel the warmth, smell the bouquet, taste the fruitiness, it reminds me of the Blood of Christ.

I love White Wine. Not much a fan of red.

Your experience is pretty neat though! :)

I wish my church did it by intinction. The pew where my friend and I sit isn’t up front but close enough and there aren’t that many people ahead of us. Or me. My friend is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and sometimes she does that. I kept an eye out for how many are taking the cup and will continue to do so.
I wish my parish could receive by intinction. We are offered the cup, but a lot of times I decline if I am dealing with weakness in my hands.

I’ve never seen it done at my parish but I know I’ve seen it done at the nursing home I volunteered at.

Well, that's a reason I like to sit in the front pew. Sure, the EMHCs drink of the blood of Christ before I do, but I don't think the cup gets "tainted enough" before I take my sip.

After these anecdotes though, I think I might just stick to the Eucharist. I had sipped the Blood because I thought that it mitigated the aftertaste I would get by just taking the Eucharist alone.

The problem with intinction is that Jesus command when he established the Eucharist was, take and eat, take and drink,
not take and dunk. :D

When I was EMHC of the cup I had some come to me with the Eucharist and wanted to dip it into the cup.
I was told by the pastor, not to allow this. One, having someone put their hand down into the cup is not
sanitary. Two, it's not theologically correct and not allowed by the Latin Church.

When I attended the Mass at a Monastery, most of the sisters were 70+, so I never had any concerns about their health.
One of the greatest celebrations at Mass was when I attended a retreat at the local Trappist monastery. I had
just finished reading Scott Hahn's book, "The Lamb's Supper." Also, Fr Basil Pennington was minister of the cup,
which I received from. I'll always remember that Mass as it was so beautiful, and heaven on earth was revealed to
me.

Yikes. Self-service is disgraceful. I admire the Eastern rite's tradition of intinction. But I guess I can see why it could be problematic with our current NO practices. We have a lot going on anyway between receiving in hand or on the tongue, standing or kneeling.

I never thought about that being unsanitary but yeah, it would be.

USCCB on intinction:

49. Holy Communion may be distributed by intinction in the following manner: "Each communicant, while holding a Communion-plate under the mouth, approaches the Priest who holds a vessel with the sacred particles, with a minister standing at his side and holding the chalice. The Priest takes a host, intincts it partly in the chalice and, showing it, says: 'The Body and Blood of Christ.' The communicant replies, 'Amen,' receives the Sacrament in the mouth from the Priest, and then withdraws."54

50. The communicant, including the extraordinary minister, is never allowed to self-communicate, even by means of intinction. Communion under either form, bread or wine, must always be given by an ordinary or extraordinary minister of Holy Communion.

Was Mass being celebrated or were the host and precious blood brought by other lay ministers? Interesting.

If you go to the Eastern Rite, you receive on a spoon, as does everybody else. I only been to a Ukrainian (Eastern Catholic) parish once where I received on the liturgical spoon, and a Melkite liturgy where I received directly in the mouth.

Mass was being celebrated by the priest and deacon. It’s done once a month here. The other 3 weeks communion is brought by EMHC to the Catholic residents. I was the one that did that when Mass was not being celebrated there as well as hospitals and County Homes.

USCCB on intinction:

This is done with the priest or deacon dipping the host into the precious blood, not the communicant dipping the
host into the cup on their own.

Also, it's up to the local diocesan Bishop to decide if intinction is to be allowed or not in parishes.

When I was minister of the cup, I have no doubt that people who had colds still received.

The grosses thing that I often witnessed was a parishioner who had a large bristle style
mustache. I knew when he took a sip from the cup, the hairs from the bottom of his
mustache would get into the precious blood. Nothing I could say or do could change
this.
I was reminded of this post tonight at Mass. I was watching to see who was drinking from the chalice to see if I was willing to drink from it also and there was a guy with a. big bristle mustache at MY church drinking, too. I didn’t drink any tonight. For all I know a hair could’ve been floating in there.

You became a connoisseur thanks to Holy Communion.
