  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You mean he is wrong.
No, Trump is proposing.
You are supposing
And the government of Panama is hardly an unbiased source for claims of who is controlling or influencing control of the Canal.
China did immediately back out of a deal involving the canal the minute Trump shined the spotlight.
IT is also on the smuggling route north. IT used to be a "lower border" to stop contraband and other illegally smuggled articles.
We invade soverign countries all the time, sometimes overtly, sometimes covertly
Am I OK with that? Well, when the army invaded Afghanistan and Iraq, I don't remember anyone asking my persmission.

Yes, it's a simple question. Do you think it's a good idea to literally invade another country and illegally take by force that which doesn't belong to you. There'd of course be casualties on both sides and condemnation by every nation on the planet, so you'd lose a lot of friends.

Trump thinks it's a good idea. Do you agree with him? Or is it a galactically stupid idea? Let me know.

For instance, the Media was warning that without illegal workers people wouldn't have blueberries in their smoothies.
FACT blueberries are harvested mechanically.
Sure, blueberries for jam, but who puts jam in their smoothies? Currently, the mechanical harvesters are too rough for fresh berries:

Most machine-harvested blueberries go to processors to be made into jams and other products. A fresh-market crop, however, needs gentle handling to keep berries from bruising. Yang’s invention catches the fruit, so the berries are in good shape for shipping to stores. In addition to a pleasing taste, blueberries are known as a “super food” with many health benefits.

Get the facts straight.
Hm.
So many untruths circulating to whip up sympathy for income tax evasion and people who are not going to the fields but to the cities to collecct welfare.
Untruths are certainly circulating.

There are foriegn contractors who recruit crews of pickers in Mexico and other countries. The farmer contracts for so many pickers who are given H2A visas according to what the farmer needs
The pickers who contract may work many different crops
That is legal
Here is a Fact:
Farm workers are legal, either citizens or H2A Visa holders

Any farmer who is hiring illegals is depriving Legal H2AVisa Holders of a job.
The illegals are actually taking work away from people who come to this country legally to support their families.
And hiring illegals leads to abuse of workers and tax evasion

Not exactly a refudiation of morning blueberries going up in price for lack of hand-pickers.
And hiring illegals leads to abuse of workers and tax evasion
It does.

Then contact to your Congressional Representative about issuing more H2A visas
Most of the cost of blueberries is because of inflation in operating cost.

You can find your representative in front of the Education Department building, rabble rousing and calling for civil insurrection in the streets.

Congress is supposed to address issues, such as farm labor shortages, through legislative action, yes?
When Congressmen and women are rabble rousing, they are abdicating Congrassional legislative powers to the mob.
Saving our democracy?
How pathetic

This time of year, blueberries ripen in the Southern Hemisphere. A lot of the cost is importation related.

No, that is not true. Rep. Langworthy is MAGA. Why would you make such a redonkulus assertion?

Remember how Congress negotiated a new immigration bill until Donald nuked it because he didn't want a "win" under Biden? I do!

It doesn't require a new bill. The farmers request a certain number of foreign workers and those visas are issued.

Well, perhaps Langworthy is actually at work today.
It is Maxine Waters and other democrats who are absent from their day job.
Musk should dock their pay for unexcused absence

You know there was a Bill introduced a few years ago to fine Congressmen who did not show up for floor votes.
Where are these elected Representatives that they can't show up for floor votes much less meetings to craft legislation and a budget?

But you declared that my representative was not. Why did you say that without knowing?
It is Maxine Waters and other democrats who are absent from their day job.
Who is Rep. Waters to me? Who are "other democrats" to me?
Musk should dock their pay for unexcused absence
Illegality not withstanding? Or is it amusing that this unelected oligarch is getting into our systems?
You know there was a Bill introduced a few years ago to fine Congressmen who did not show up for floor votes.
Bill Gates?
Where are these elected Representatives that they can't show up for floor votes much less meetings to craft legislation and a budget?
Ah, rhetorical question.

Musk is actully working within an agency created by Obama
And it is legal and doing what Obama created it to do.
The entire bureaucracy, in fact most of government, is run by unelected bureaucrats so the argument that Musk appointed to an agency charged by Obama to perform certain functions is illegal would make a significant portion of our unelected bureaucrats illegal.

Congress could pass a law perhaps that would get rid of that Obama Agency but Congress isn't very efficient at doing it's job
50 to 70 of them are in front of the Department of Education Building today calling for action from the mob.
Why aren't they over in Congress making a law?
Congress has a job approval rating of 17%. It isn't because of the Executive's policies. He has 51% approval.
Congress has abdicated it's power to the mob as Congressmen are out in the streets rabble rousing to save our democracy.

Meanwhile, what was the topic again?

What title, grade and job description?
And it is legal and doing what Obama created it to do.
I'm pretty sure that the Dept. of Digital Services was not created for Musk and his minions to raid the Treasury Dept, set up illegal private servers and snatch our data. I'm pretty sure that the Dept. of Digital Services is not tasked with firing career civil servants in other departments.
The entire bureaucracy, in fact most of government, is run by unelected bureaucrats so the argument that Musk appointed to an agency charged by Obama to perform certain functions is illegal would make a significant portion of our unelected bureaucrats illegal.
What functions exactly did Congress during the Obama administration assign to the Dept. of Digital Services? And no, Musk overstepping his authority does not translate with other bureaucrats who do their duties within the guidelines set out for them illegal.
Congress could pass a law perhaps that would get rid of that Obama Agency but Congress isn't very efficient at doing it's job
Congress could. Trump not so much.
50 to 70 of them are in front of the Department of Education Building today calling for action from the mob.
Good for them.
Why aren't they over in Congress making a law?
Because they are presumably protesting.
Congress has a job approval rating of 17%. It isn't because of the Executive's policies. He has 51% approval.
Congress has abdicated it's power to the mob as Congressmen are out in the streets rabble rousing to save our democracy.
No. Trump and his Project 2025 is trying to usurp the powers of Congress for an imperial presidency.
Meanwhile, what was the topic again?
Read the title and the OP. It's right there.

Because they are presumably protesting.
Protesting is not mentioned in the Constitution
Peaceful assembly to petition the government is the actual phrasing.

Why are Congressmen peacefully assembling to petition the Government?

Those Congressmen Are the Government.

Wish they would trot themselves back to their Congressional Offices and get some work done.
Musk should dock their pay for unexcused absence from their day jobs

Tomato tomahto.
Why are Congressmen peacefully assembling to petition the Government?
There are three branches of Government. Checks and balances. Constituent services.
Those Congressmen Are the Government.

Wish they would trot themselves back to their Congressional Offices and get some work done.
Wishes/horses.
Musk should dock their pay for unexcused absence from their day jobs
The oligarch Musk is not in charge of Congressional pay - or anyone else's - which is one of the myriad of atrocities they are protesting.

Free speech, just expressing myself or protesting does not include punching you in the nose.
Peaceable Assembly is not a collective right to punch you in the nose.
Punching the American people in the nose by blocking the roads, toppling and defacing statues that were paid for by taxpayer money is neither free speech or peaceable assembly to petition
It is punching them guys in the nose.

If Free Speech and the Peaceful Assembly were the same, then both would not be specifically mentioned in the Constitution.
Right to Peaceable Assembly to Petition and Free Speech are not the same thing.
Free Speech is an individual right. It is not an collective right whereas Peaceable Assembly is.
You seem to be making an argument that wasn’t being debated before.

You are correct that freedom of speech is not the same as the right to peaceably assemble (though they are rather inextricably linked to some degree).

Here’s a link for an overview of “peaceably assemble” and “protesting” as defined by SCOTUS
