  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The greatest theological question and topic?

What is is the greatest theological question and what is the greatest theological topic? Jesus said that love is the greatest commandments and Paul said that love is greater than faith and hope.
In my estimation... recognition and submission to God's sovereignty. Everything else flows from that, imho.

Good way to start! Without love, theology is in vain.

The greatest theological question is how do I get right with God?

The greatest theological topic is Christ.

Where great questions are of great concern, the candidate I tend to go with is, "...But who do you say that I Am?"

And the ways in which I could be wrong about this might prove to be a great theological topic.

How to get right? Love

The topic of Jesus is love because God is love.
Love of God apart from faith and trust in Jesus and his atoning work for the remission of your sin does not save from God's wrath on your sin at the Judgment (Jn 3:18).

But God's love saves me.

The false premise that "God is in control of everything," from the orbit of atoms around elections to the collision of galaxies and everything in between. This theory states that everything that happens in our lives is orchestrated, authenticated, and endorsed with purpose by God. Most who hold to this false teaching have an erroneous concept of sovereignty.

God is in control of everything. To say that he lost control is to say that he's not the Almighty God. Even our free will came by his control. But maybe we are not talking about the same thing.

No, you are right... that is what I am talking about. I disagree. It sounds very good, and it is the foundation of many fundamentalist sermons, but it simply does not pan out with scripture - or logic, for that matter.
I normally do not try to dissuade people from their position since many base their faith on this idea. I don't want to harm that. I know it harms their faith and concept of God.

I don't think of it to be honest. It's not a factor in my faith

It does... as Paul said in Heb 6:1-3 the failure to learn the basics of Christian teaching may prevent you from going on to the higher mature teachings and spiritual maturity. "Faith toward God" is one of those basic teachings. Holding God responsible for all the world's evils certainly affects that teaching and will prevent one from maturing and even pleasing God.

Hebrews 6:1-3 CEV
1 We must try to become mature and start thinking about more than just the basic things we were taught about Christ. We shouldn't need to keep talking about why we ought to turn from deeds that bring death and why we ought to have faith in God.
2 And we shouldn't need to keep teaching about baptisms or about the laying on of hands or about people being raised from death and the future judgment.
3 Let's grow up, if God is willing.

Lol. I know the basics. I'm celebate because my body is a temple. I don't fight with people over worldly matters. I don't lust for wealth or expensive possessions. I'm content with simple things. I pray always and I rejoice in the Lord. I'm not anxious or worried about worldly things. I'm trying to love people in these end times. Love is the commandment.
