  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You might as well prefer the natives treated each other better. Or the Europeans treated each other better.

Maybe we just buy the world a coke.

Us coming over here, made the entire world a better place. The natives may live wherever they wish and do whatever they wish. Their ways of murdering, raping and torturing and conquering each other is over.
Yes yes. Thank goodness for the white man and his manifest destiny to improve the lives of the heathen savages. <roll eyes>

What if we weren't white? Would that make it all better?

Just of the coast of the great continent of América Mexicana.
I just learned today Mexico is officially The United Mexican States.

I was a spanish minor in college.

I wonder why that was never taught to me?

Hmmm....

Yea, it's called Christian civilization.

and you should be thankful.

Or if you want, you could go live in Haiti and enjoy a life unburdened by the 'evil white man'.

<Looks at the history of Christians killing each other and enslaving other cultures>

Civilization huh? Looks pretty barbaric to me.

Yea that's why it's good to have perspective. If your standard is perfection, then of course it looks barbaric.

However, how does it look relative to life in Haiti or Sudan? Or would you perhaps prefer the poop-filled streets of India?

European Christian civilization (aka evil white people) is the reason you have any concept of 'human rights' at all.

That would be because of the enlightenment. The era when Europe stopped allowing religion to control society and started moving towards an evidenced view of reality. It was in spiteof religion, not because of it.

"the enlightenment", rationalism, epiricism, etc. is not where the concept of human dignity came from.

enslaving and exploiting outsider groups is perfectly "rational". what an empirically efficient way to gain material wealth and power!

go take a look at how the ancient Greeks treated outsiders (the enlightenment philosophes were all about modeling ancient greco-rome)

the idea of universal human dignity comes from the Cross. much as you may hate to admit it.

"evil white men" (aka Christian civilization) has been the most generous, charitable, self-sacrificial force in world history.

I know this is pure unadulterated heresy to your ideology, but it's the truth.

The audacity to presume you get to assign to me my position and thoughts. We are done here. I will not be treated with such disrespect.

im not presuming anything, you were straightforwardly heaping derision on the history of Christian Europe/America (white people)

which I also find extremely disrespectful. I don't think your views have any place in the polite society.

Thats exactly what happened. We've improved the lives of everyone. Probably wouldn't have happened without us. Did we always do it right? Not according to the modern mind. But for back then? We did things the way everyone in the world did things. To judge them utilizing today's standards is foolish. Im mean even today there are people and governments that still behave that way. But today we have a HUGE swath of mostly white people who have a more modern mind on this stuff and see it as wrong.

But we weren't as advanced back then. And as we see the manifest destiny was necessary to make and build this country that had been critical for the advancement of man.

I wonder where this thread is going since we officially live in a secular country.

[I'm referring to the United States]

Thomas Jefferson wasn't even Christian, IIRC, he was a deist.

Christianity and Western civilization should be celebrated an applauded for bringing Christ and redemption to the world, for ceasing the human sacrifice, ending the slave trade, and so many other horrors. It hasn't always been perfect, far from it, but the alternative was death and damnation.

With Biden gone, we no longer are obligated to feel ashamed of being White, or Christian, or American. But some people will go ahead with it anyway.

Go tell India they are better off for having been "civilized" by the British empire, see if they agree.

While you are at it check in with the native Americans, the native Hawaiians, every group that has been exploited by colonization to the detriment of the original inhabitants.

Look, I'm not claiming that western culture has not made some true advancements to the betterment of human kind, but don't try to pitch me a bunch of bunk that manifest destiny was for the betterment of those who were subjugated. It was only for the enrichment of those who did the subjugation and the fallout from that is still in evidence in those communities affected. A friend of my wife is an American Indian pastor who is trying to battle the ongoing poverty and despair that is a regular feature on reservations across the country.

Oh yes! That's been self-destructing at the corporate level as it's being taken down at the government level.
Trump is able to take down the destructive policies of the biden era (4 years) in just a few days. Can't wait to see what Trump can do in 4 years.

That's the religion of the postwar consensus we've been living under for decades, where the only real "sin" was wanting to preserve Anglo-Christian ethnicity and culture in America, and that false religion is thankfully dying.
