Senior law enforcement sources confirmed to KOAA news outlet that Livelsberger was the driver of the Cybertruck used in the attack.

Authorities believe the blast was triggered by a detonation system “controlled by Livelsberger,” who “died in the attack.”

Authorities have revealed that Matthew Livelsberger, 37, shot himself in the head moments before his Tesla Cybertruck exploded outside Trump Tower in Las Vegas.

“We do know who rented the truck, we are looking at that individual, but I am not prepared to release the name of any of the individuals that we are looking at,” Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill said on Wednesday.

Senior law enforcement sources confirmed to KOAA news outlet that Livelsberger was the driver of the Cybertruck used in the attack.


Sheriff Kevin McMahill confirmed on Thursday that Livelsberger’s body was so badly burned in the explosion that identification was only possible through his tattoos, Daily Mail reported.

The sheriff said Livelsberger was found in the vehicle with a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” to the head.

“We believe the question is, was the gunshot self-inflicted? We do believe it was since he was the only person in the vehicle, and it occurred immediately prior to the vehicle blowing up,” McMahill said.

He continued, “The question is, am I comfortable calling it a suicide mission? I’m comfortable calling it a suicide with the bombing that occurred immediately thereafter. I’m not given and any other labels.”

Credit cards, a military ID, and his passport were also found on his person, but DNA confirmation is still pending.

A Bronze Star recipient who exploded a Tesla Cybertruck outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas wrote of “political grievances,” armed conflicts elsewhere and domestic issues in the days leading up to his suicide, officials said Friday.

The writings were found in the cellphone of Matthew Alan Livelsberger, the truck’s driver, said Sheriff Dori Koren of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in a news conference.

In his writings, the driver of the Cybertruck said the incident was intended not as a “terrorist attack” but rather “a wake-up call,” according to police. He wrote in a letter recovered by investigators that “Americans only pay attention to spectacles and violence” and “fireworks and explosives” were best to get his point across.

He said the US was “terminally ill and headed towards collapse.”

He also apparently said driving the Cybertruck made him feel like Batman.

Alicia Arritt, a 39-year-old nurse who has cared for wounded military veterans, told The Post in an interview Friday that she’d dated Livelsberger on and off from 2018 to 2021.

During that time, she said, Livelsberger — who was on approved leave from his Special Forces unit in Germany at the time of his death — told her that he had struggled with a cloudy memory, poor concentration, difficulty maintaining relationships and intense guilt over his actions on the battlefield.

Arritt recognized those symptoms as consistent with what can follow a blow to the head or massive jolt to the body. Such injuries, she knew, could fuel a gradual, heartbreaking deterioration of someone’s mental state. Several of her veteran friends and former patients, she said, have died by suicide.
