  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Assad's main allies are Russia, Iran, Hezbollah and Tulsi Gabbard.

The idea that Biden is going to send US soldiers to support keeping Assad in power is ridiculous.

The idea that Trump is going to send US soldiers to help Assad is equally JUST as ludicrous. Also, I take umbrage with the idea that Tulsi Gabbard is one of Assad's main allies.

Syrian opposition forces have entered Aleppo
From what I've heard, this is likely because of the Israeli attacks on the Heezbollah militia, an ally of the Assad regime.
Hezbollah chose to attack Israel, and so they have decoyed themselves away from being able to support Syria, I suppose.

And Russia reportedly is crying for the fighting to stop in Syria, while Russia is being drained in Ukraine. And so Russia can't help so much to keep control of Syria its ally.
it's no surprise our desire to remove Assad has been on America's minds for many years.
Well . . . look what happened when the United States took down the horrible tyrant Saddam. Saddam was no longer there to stop some group like ISIS which then starting taking over more and more cities in Iraq and elsewhere.

Like that, if you take out Assad, someone . . . and/or something . . . worse might be ready to take over.

It seems to me, that there are Muslims who essentially make an idol out of land: ones have to have their "caliphate". And, once some group gets some land, then, they then might try to take over the whole earth . . . like ISIS was going to try to do. So, any Muslim group of rebels could take down some dictator or whoever, and "liberate" people, but then can be when they will not stop "there", if they are into world domination by Islam.

But a problem they have is their "denominations", fighting with one another. So, no one can get the whole world, without being stopped by other Muslims or other neighbors and not-so neighbors like the U.S.

Assad has left Damascus and the rebels have taken the capital. The rest of the country should now fall soon after.

The big test of HTS is what they do to the church. They have modeled a more moderate religious approach in recent years that resembles more closely the first caliphs who tolerated Christians and Jews but the history of Syria has been brutal toward the church in the last decade.

I guess this means that Russia just lost a major ally in the Middle East- Also the general weakening of Iran and its proxies is well underway preparing for a Trump presidency that is more pro-Sunni and pro-Israel.

What they do with the Russian naval base will be interesting.

All the Muslim countries are all war crazy. As long as Israel is protected, let them all battle each other until the end of time, as it's their destiny.

The church and the Kurds also deserve protection as well as Israel. If Turkey enabled the recent offensive then their objective was to challenge the Kurds who hold the East of the country. If Israel did then the bargain was probably that so long as you do not attack us or enable Iran-backed terrorism in the region we will not attack you. The USA benefits from Iran and Russia being displaced as powers in the country but is probably worried what another Islamist regime in the region will mean. Most of the Sunni countries are probably overjoyed that Assad is gone as this now means that Sunnis control the country.

Yes, anyone who is non-Muslim deserves protection.

No, mate, Erdogan is the ruler of Turkey. I was talking about Syria.

So am l.

These are his terrorists. People he is aligned with.

Why do you think it was Erdogan and not the terrorists who called Assad to negotiate terms.

He just took Syria by proxy.

Whatever. I can't bring myself to be sad about the end of a decades old terror and torture regime, combined with Russia losing an ally and their only mediterranean harbour, so you'll just have to get upset for the both of us.

The test of how far Erdogan is in charge of this process will be the interaction of the new HTS regime with the Kurds in the East. At the moment their logistics root back to Turkey but once they have taken the Mediterranean ports that changes of course.

I would suggest opening diplomatic channels with the new government of Syria.
There will be a lot for Syria itself to figure out, but one key thing we (the outside world) can do is press for inspectors to round up chemical weapons and see to their destruction in exchange for sanctions going away.

The correct way to view this, is that Gaza, Turkey, Iran, ISIS, Hezbollah, Assad, Erdogan, Lebanon, Saudi, Sunni and Shia are all Radical Muslim terrorists... All of the same Mohammed-loving ugly cloth.

Im not sure how people here decide that an Iran-Hezbollah allied terrorist murderer is better than an Islamist terrorist militia.
Assad has paid at least lip service to favoring and protecting the christian minority in Syria, so he has some good publicity by some christians, who are happy to overlook his poor treatment of muslims and kurds.

As for me, the Assad regime was so horrible that I think it would be worth taking almost any chance on change.

Apparently this militia leadership has been trying to tone down its extremist vibe over the years. Could be real. Or it could be like the Taliban who promised moderation only to walk it back step by step arriving at the same absurd misogyny they began with.
