Biden’s sign-off on Long-range missiles has all the feel of the U.S. GLCM (Ground Launch Cruise Missiles) that Reagan deployed to Europe to help NATO break the backs of the USSR.

Putin lowers the threshold for a nuclear response in new warnings to the West over Ukraine
Sept. 25, 2024

In a strong, new warning to the West, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that any nation’s conventional attack on Russia that is supported by a nuclear power will be considered a joint attack on his country.

The threat, outlined in a revision of Moscow’s nuclear doctrine, was clearly aimed at discouraging the West from allowing Ukraine to strike Russia with longer-range weapons and appears to significantly lower the threshold for Russia to possibly use its nuclear arsenal.

‘This Is Not a Bluff.’ Putin Raises Specter of Nuclear Weapons Following Battlefield Losses
September 21, 2022

After a series of losses on the battlefield in eastern Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued an ambiguous yet ominous threat to use a nuclear weapon. “If the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, we will without a doubt use all available means to protect Russia and our people,” he said Wednesday in a nationally televised speech. “This is not a bluff.”

Since he ordered the invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, Putin has routinely reminded the world that Moscow’s nuclear arsenal is the world’s largest. He has publicly placed Russia’s nuclear forces on “special combat readiness” alert, held high-profile nuclear drills and issued veiled threats to use a nuclear weapon if any nation gets in the way of his goal to overthrow the government in Kyiv.

New Russian policy allows use of atomic weapons against non-nuclear strike
Jun 2, 2020

President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday endorsed Russia’s nuclear deterrent policy, which allows him to use atomic weapons in response to a conventional strike targeting the nation’s critical government and military infrastructure.

By including a non-nuclear attack as a possible trigger for Russian nuclear retaliation, the document appears to send a warning signal to the U.S.

It's NOT just the US. Further down in the document it is stated that should the aggressor belong to an alliance, then the ENTIRE alliance will have been deemed to have been the aggressor.
In other words, should Ukraine attack Russian territory with US ATACMS missiles, Russia could retaliate by bombing Estonia or Greece since they belong to NATO.

President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday formally lowered the threshold for Russia’s use of its nuclear weapons, a move that follows U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to let Ukraine strike targets inside Russian territory with American-supplied longer-range missiles.

Continued below.
Nuclear brinksmanship is such a fun game to play. Does Biden even know the name of the game that is being played in his name? Is Putin sane? Can we make it another 50 days in this most dangerous time?

Having grown up in the era of 'dock and cover'I wonder at how much more lethal the nuclear arsenals are now. In 1963 it would have been a pretty small war.

I imagine they are hugely more powerful than they were back then. The thought terrifies me.

And if Putin does use nuclear weapons, what are the ramifications for us?

Putin is not insane or stupid. He will bite the bullet for two months and wait for Trump's inauguration.
The President-elect has already made clear that he intends to bring the war in Ukraine to a close with negotiations.
The one whose sanity is in question is the one who has been continually provoking Russia even as a lame duck.

With this latest development, it's not looking good. Things have been going 'too smoothly' since the election. But now it looks like they're going to use Biden to try to get us into WWIII before Trump gets into Office.

I hope you're right about Putin. I really hope you are right.

And Biden is a danger now to us all. He keeps provoking Russia, and yet he barely knows what day it is!
This really is insanity. Very dangerous times.

Putin is the one who decided to invade Ukraine in 2022 and in recent weeks has massed some tens of thousands of troops in Kursk, including soldiers from the DPRK. He is the provocateur.

Should the build up of Russian and DPRK troops on Ukraine's border go unanswered?

This really is insanity. Very dangerous times.
Putin has drawn red lines and threatened the use of nuclear weapons multiple times over the past few years. We are still here. We will still be here tomorrow!

He may be an actual ‘clear and present danger’. But who is really running this country?

Is the “Mutually Assured Destruction” doctrine (MAD) going to play itself out again. Has MAD been the unspoken modus operandi all along?
The perhaps greater danger is from the ‘tactical’ use of nukes and then escalating without restraint. Putin may be mad and our president is senile. Who is going to do the restraining?

isn't it amazing?

now there is literally a senile lame-duck president trying to start a hot war with Russia... and *crickets* from all those people who were hand-wringing over how dangerous it would be to give Trump access to nukes...

put in perspective... a regime that has just lost political power and legitimacy, a regime whose foreign policy has been democratically rejected by the people... is now in their final minutes directing missile attacks on another nuclear power.

Putin is the one who decided to invade Ukraine in 2022

Because Ukraine was threatening to abandon its neutrality and ally with NATO. Their government had also recently undergone a violent coup. The USA would do the same thing if that stuff was happening in Mexico.

and in recent weeks has massed some tens of thousands of troops in Kursk, including soldiers from the DPRK. He is the provocateur.

Should the build up of Russian and DPRK troops on Ukraine's border go unanswered?

Yes, it should go unanswered because we are not at war with Russia and Ukraine is not an ally or NATO member.

Why do the Ukrainian people have to get slaughtered so American liberals/neocons can throw away hundreds of billions of dollars just to feel like they are vicariously living through a Marvel Avengers movie? That's the better question to ask.

pretty much... they want to increase hostilities to the point that it makes it very difficult for Trump to negotiate a peace.

kind of reminds me how they pushed the covid lockdown hysteria and wiped out the small business economy at the end of Trump's first term

there is no limit to the amount of misery they are willing to inflict on the world in order to stop the orange bad man.

Because Ukraine was threatening to abandon its neutrality and ally with NATO.
Russia illegally annexed Crimea in 2014 and was threatening to invade Ukraine, which it did in 2022. Ukraine is a sovereign country and has a right to decide what allegances it wants to join in order to defend itself.

Yes, it should go unanswered because we are not at war with Russia and Ukraine is not an ally or NATO member.
Ukraine is a NATO ally and this isn't the first time NATO has helped a non-NATO member.

Why do the Ukrainian people have to get slaughtered so American liberals/neocons can throw away hundreds of billions of dollars just to feel like they are vicariously living through a Marvel Avengers movie? That's the better question to ask.
Russia started an illegal and unjustifiable war of aggression against Ukraine and Russia can end it at anytime. A better question would be, why are Trump Republicans opposed to continued aid to Ukraine?

Do you feel the same way about the United States support for Israel following the October 7th attack by Hamas? Should the United States stop providing billions of dollars in financial aid and military equipment to Israel to help that country defend itself against Iran, hezbollah, and Hamas?
