• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I can't stand Trump... But I'm Voting for Him

Here in the US we elect our governments. Sometimes we elect good governments. sometimes bad governments, but we always get the government we deserve. So if Trump wins in November, I will at least have the satisfaction of knowing that fellow and those like him are truly getting the government they deserve.

Can’t stand him yet sings his praises with every word after that first line, pull the other one.
Maybe because they support his policies. The job title is not "Bestie of the United States".

I worked 15 years for a guy like Trump - not someone I wanted to chummy up with, but he built several businesses, that are still going on today (he sold them, and retired). Many of his ex employees went on to start their own businesses themselves.

The list on internet cesspool X is very similar to the “I’m not racist but…” cliche.
Do you think "hedge" statements like that are exclusively a reflection of people using them? Or a symptom of a previous breakdown in the ability to have nuanced conversations without people distorting what other people are saying?

To your example of "I'm not racist, but..."

I see that has having two possible motivations.
1) The person is actually racist but wants to reframe it in a way that doesn't sound like it

2) The person feels compelled to put in that preface because completely reasonable and valid non-racist positions have been falsely portrayed as such by the opposing team so many times that they're paranoid about saying something without making that clear in the outset.

For example, if every time people advocated for universal healthcare, droves of people called them a communist...there are going to be a percentage of those people who will start saying "Look, I'm not a communist by any means, I like market economies...I just think there'd be value in the healthcare sector being public instead of private"

Sums up a lot for me as to why I'm voting for him, too
At the end of the day neither (from Christian point of view) is ideal but i believe Trump despite his faults has the best interest of all the people. He has my vote

Can't stand him yet engage in some of the most ridiculous and braindead fawning over him.

I suppose I shouldn't expect much from somebody with the handle "bitcoin4freedom".

What about January 6th and the democratic process?
You don't think he seeks to undermine our faith in the process simply to assert his claim to power?

Or do you think that is in "the best interest of all the people"?

A real, genuine, investigation of what happened that day would be nice. Invite reporter Julie Kelly. She's the only one doing any heavy lifting on the subject.

That's not a unbiased source.

...by that, I mean she has a pronounced political slant. We're not talking about an objective reviewer. Julie Kelly's two books were railing against the "never Trump republicans" (portraying them as "the enemy within"), and another making claims that Democrats were simply using Jan 6th to launch a "war against the right".

And being a regular contributor to the Federalist, as well as a semi-regular on Tucker Carlson's program calls objectivity into question.

So Liz Cheney's investigation was unbiased?

Obviously not...Liz was obviously biased.

But we shouldn't try to pretend that "the sources that agree with me are the objective ones"

If you had to lay out just the objective facts of the day that led from he progression of "attending a rally" to "bum-rushing the capitol", what would you highlight as the major bullet points or catalysts that led from point A to point B?

Seems pretty much like a ploy to get anti-Trum voters to change their minds but they never will. We already know what we get with Trump. No taxes for billionaires while people just making ends meet are saddled with the national debt.

I mean why should a billionaire pay taxes? Trump doesn't. I mean not even one single dollar does he pay in taxes. Of course, it's better for him in the system where only people who work their tails off day in and day out pay taxes while the 1% not only don't pay taxes but get tax rebates for having fundraisers for a fake charity that they use to fly themselves all over the world?
