  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Trump hypothesizes genetic basis for murderous behavior among human populations

In the middle of a rant about immigration, Trump said, "We got a lot of bad genes in our country." His campaign said later that "bad genes" was only in reference to murderers.

“Many of them murdered far more than one person, and they’re now happily living in the United States,” he added. “You know, now a murderer, I believe this, it’s in their genes. And we got a lot of bad genes in our country right now."

I've seen it, reading it now in fact, and seeing that you were shown that you were very, very, VERY wrong and shown how and why repeatedly. But that's no never mind to you.

QV please:

Research suggests that these negative traits are at least partially genetic, passed from parent to child. Other studies have shown that personality traits overall are moderately heritable.

So, people with parents who have toxic traits may be more likely to have those characteristics, too.

Note the words 'partially' and 'moderately'. That does not mean they are definitive. My father's father was an abusive alcoholic drunk of a Scotsman who beat him and his brothers and my dad's mum routinely. My father is far from perfect but he's not at that level for sure and I know that I have no desire to be anything like them if I end up having the luck of having my own child/children.

It's the old 'nature versus nurture' debate, and with humans it's very much both not one or the other. And many times, humans refuse the nurture side. People need help and we often refuse to give it, or even refuse to think of giving it, which can make a bad problem into a horrible situation.

And after reading your 'challenge thread' in its entirety... beside it going off the rails quite a bit, you were resoundingly shown to be wrong in your idea.

It's heredity and environment. Both are factors.

Hence why I said: "It's the old 'nature versus nurture' debate, and with humans it's very much both not one or the other."

Note the words 'partially' and 'moderately'.

"Partially" and "moderately" are not strong enough words to qualify me for being ... as you put it ... "very, very, VERY wrong".

That does not mean they are definitive.

It doesn't mean I'm "very, very, VERY wrong" either.

My father's father was an abusive alcoholic drunk of a Scotsman who beat him and his brothers and my dad's mum routinely.

I went through that in my childhood as well.

Although it wasn't routine, it was effective enough to make a lasting impression.

And after reading your 'challenge thread' in its entirety... beside it going off the rails quite a bit, you were resoundingly shown to be wrong in your idea.

Was my OP answered as I asked it?

Playing "the glass is half empty" isn't getting my question answered.

Don't dwell on what it isn't.

Dwell on what it is.

And give me the appropriate terminology please.

What do you call it?

I have no idea.

The generative AI on Google says this:

Christine insists that criminals are made in bad environments, but Tasker insists that some criminals are born that way, that they are "bad seeds," possessing atavistic, consciousless minds, and even that one might inherit a tendency to criminality.

But it stops short of giving it a scientific name.

I hadn't looked at it in this way but rather that genetics determine your potential and environment determines how much of that potential you reach.
As far as a bad seed I believe it exists but is sometimes overcome

Was my OP answered as I asked it?

It was answered.
There is no 'kind of evolution' for 'bad seeds'. It's a combination of genetics and environment.

Playing "the glass is half empty" isn't getting my question answered.

Don't dwell on what it isn't.

Dwell on what it is.

And give me the appropriate terminology please.

Go back and reread your own thread as I did. The answer is in there.

Can a tendency to steal sometimes be genetically passed on? Because we didn't used to have shaving cream behind locked glass doors at the store... Now all of a sudden we do. What happened?

Gross overinflation caused by a very, VERY bad mishandling of a worldwide pandemic. Might be the problem.

Maybe. All I know is that once upon a time, it was normal to leave your keys in the ignition with the windows down when you walked into a store... You don't see that anymore.
