  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I always wonder when it comes to 24 hour news. How much is actually staged, i mean they have 24 hours to fill with news.

I agree. There's about ten minutes of information per hour (at best), and the rest is opinion and "talking heads." I truly think it's partly the bane of our existence (except, we love it).

Yes they do (that is love it), to me it is like eating fast food.

It is not good for you but it is cheep and does not take any time to prepare and cook. The easy way to get your hunger satisfied, so just plop down in front of a 24 hour news machine and get your fill and just believe what you are told. Its so convenient they have a 24 hour news cycle especially prepared for your beliefs.

I've done it. Years ago, when I first came upon it (I didn't have TV for a number of years), and I was smitten. I just watched news, and I felt so informed. lol

IMO, people were better informed before the advent of 24 hour cable news.

I know what you mean. What was the beginning for me where i just began to say this is just to much. was the Natalee Holloway onslaught of news.

I would say, at least they were not exposed to fabricated/created news situations that was just used to fill up time.

That's a good example. How much about that situation do I really need to know? At what point do I become a kind of voyeur, just gawking at the misfortunes and misdeeds of others. It feels gross thinking about it.

That’s right. The fabricated stories weren’t just there to sell ads. They were there to sell a particular set of propaganda. Yellow journalism predates 24-hour news by quite a bit.

I think it's human nature to help others in distress, kudos to the weatherman. On reporting:

Yeah there has been a lot of deceit in a way with weather reporting. But this one (in the OP) is legit. The reporter thought he went off the air and did not know that the camera man started recording him helping that girl. If she could not swim. She was in pretty deep if there was any current.
