  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There’s a new social media app. It’s sort of like Twitter, it’s free, and everyone who signs up for it immediately has—I kid you not—one million followers. And they’re all hanging on your every word, eager to talk about every post you make on it.

The catch? Those one million followers are exclusively LLM-based bots.

What I'm hearing is that, just by signing up, I could get about 13% as many followers as Trump's Truth Social account, without getting shot at or having to be associated with Don Jr and Eric?

Goes to show the epidemic of loneliness in the US, or the need for attention by Gen Z, or both, as the answer lies in the middle. This is most certainly End Times stuff right here. At least it is not as harmful as Trump's Fake Social.

When you sign up—yes, I tried it, briefly, for the purposes of this post—you get to select the “personalities” of the types of bots who will follow you.

I'm going to check it out. I bet it can be monetized.

Weinberg ponders whether its success indicates that something is wrong with us. I see no need to ponder whether that's the case. Still, I can't imagine why one would use it. Are people that desperate for some kind of interaction? Then again, people are odd and, clearly, something is definitely wrong with us.

The average person wouldn't use it in that manner. You'd want feedback from someone who engaged with the medium like you would. The things that bother others would be of little consequence if the goal is the financial. User experience is secondary to conversions.

How would a user monetize something like that?

How would you leverage bots to market your product or service? That's your starting point. If you don't have anything in place then you're wondering how to leverage them to launch it.

It's important for you to go through that process to discover your business aptitude. You need to know where you fall on the spectrum. An ideas man, management, numbers guy, campaigns, etc. Once you know that you can fill in the missing parts.

I can give you a plan. It's part of my gift.

But you couldn't do the same consistently without that ability. The answer may seem evasive but it's really a timesaver. That's why franchises exist. They give you a system to work with. You don't have to lay the foundation. You want to play to your strengths.

In this instance there's no blueprint and you need to be comfortable with that. Creating with nothing to go on. There's a lot of trial and error.

If I give you the blueprint that's consulting. ;-)

~bella

If I accepted a blueprint, I would also consider that consulting and would think it proper of me to ask your fee. :)

But as it is, I am not at all that ambitious. I was just curious how one might do it. How would one leverage those bots to market their product or service? I honestly have no idea. I imagine my lack of ambition prevents me from seeing these obvious things, probably.

You don't have to be ambitious. It's all about wiring or what we refer to as gifts and talents. When I read your post something dropped in my spirit. That's how it works. I get an idea, answer, or an investment speaks and know what to do.

I wasn't making a negative comment on ambition or about you. God forbid, bella, I think the world of you. Your comment on "something dropped on my spirit" made something drop in my spirit! :)

Leveraging the bots requires an understanding of marketing or sales or both. Where marketing is the how and sales is the result. You're working from the how and devising a strategy to sell something. Or beginning with the result and determining the best ways to use the medium to drive more sales.

Let's say I sell a product made by a third party (t-shirts, for instance), could I use that kind of platform to sell them? For the life of me, I still can't see how.

You throw things at the wall and see what sticks. Early adoption has its benefits.

Yeah, if someone could figure out how to do it, then the bots would grow sales exponentially, I would assume.

No idea who Weinberg is. But yes, something has 100% gone wrong with our society in 2024. The Bible clearly states that things will get worse in the later days.

But the platform isn't composed of eyes.

Yeah, that's where I'm having trouble seeing it work. From what I gathered, iusers can't see each other. It's just me and a million bots. Lol. Which is kind of a creepy thought.

... well, how else are you going to build a more efficient Panopticon, especially when everyone voluntarily subscribes to it? :dontcare:

That is true, but I am no social media expert. Christianforums.com is pretty much the only social media I use, unless Skype or Discord counts.

Depends on the level data collection they're engaging in, and what kind of info/ads they'll be targeting you with in the future.

People tend to think that the "harm" of social media is defined by the discourse you're having with the other real people that are on there.

I don't see it quite that way.

Targeted content and advertising can be just as detrimental (even if it was indented to be somewhat innocent and is just the result of imperfect algorithms) as a person calling someone a name.

For example, if a person is posting on a social media platform looking for support and recovery for their gambling addition, and the algorithm & AI gets some "wires crossed", thinks the person is actually seeking out a place to do some gambling on vacation, and starts inundating them with temptation in the form of "Cheap Trivago Flights to Vegas", and "Here's the promotions at this new Casino that opened up 12 miles from your house".

To me, that has the potential to be worse than someone making fun of them for a gambling addiction.

Discord counts. There are several message boards like this one that I like. I do have FB & Instagram accounts but I rarely use them. I only started looking at Twitter/X after all the brouhaha.
