  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, sorry, you used that language yourself to describe them as such (locusts), own up to it instead of trying to pass the blame to others. Haven't heard any locals describe the Haitians as locusts so far.
Wasn't the guy who said it in the first place a local?

I said it wasn't wrong to.use an idiot to describe what's happening. I watched a video of a local who was at an intersection there where an accident had taken place. He said there were already a number of accidents that day caused by Haitian drivers who had no driver licenses.

There was a Haitian who crashed I to.a school bus and killed a kid.

Yes they are using up resources. And they shouldn't be here at this rate. This is harming America and Americans.

This is what happens when you have a president who is letting people flood into the country at record numbers. This needs to be stopped.

Idoms are perfectly acceptable to describe things that people are doing or how they are behaving.

You may be surprised to learn this, but white Americans also cause fatal accidents in the Springfield area:

I love how the solution to low wages is never to raise the minimum wage; it's always to get rid of the immigrants. Then when wages (maybe) rise, people complain about inflation and how the elevated prices mean that those workers now can't afford anything.

I love how the solution to people being unwilling to work for low wages isn't for employers to make the wages more competitive but rather instead, to employ the government to let in some 3rd world slaves for them.

And I find it oh so interesting that the left defends it.

You know, all those anti racists supporting bringing in low wage workers from 3rd world countries because those pesky Americans want decent pay.

Ridiculous. Americans are every color. Not just one. And it's really racist to bring in from the 3rd world. We got over that long ago, and I'm not repeating it.

Oh, I'm happy for the wages to be more competitive. Sometimes you even need the gubmint to step in and force the issue.

You know that's not why we support bringing them here, but I suppose whatever makes you feel better.

I just want to point out to everyone that America is market driven - not government driven.

When a company refuses to pay what workers need, they don't get a job there.

If a company runs out of workers because of it, that's workers driving the market and setting their price.

The company in this environment, would then increase the amount of money they are paying in order to attract more quality workers.

They don't run to Haiti and pick them up a few slaves!

Market wages or even sub-market wages are not slavery.

Haiti freed itself of slavery 220 years ago. The Haitian revolution was so offensive to the slavedrivers of the USA that no representative of Haiti (for 2 decades the only other independent state in the Western Hemisphere) was received by the President of the United States until the slaveocracy seceded and started a war with the US.

I thought the free market would fix that, they must be entitled to expect good wages.

The market has a limited pool. If the pool is global then it's not a country of the people (citizens), by the people, and for the people, it's a country of by and for corporations working against my and all citizens best interest.

It would were there not a pool of illegal labor for poor mouthing business owners to draw from to keep wages low.

Job 2.9-10.

Job did not say his wife was a foolish woman, but said, "You speak as a foolish woman would speak."

A way to liken.

Referring to groups of people as locusts is clearly inappropriate. Dance and rationalize as much as you like, but the term is clearly dehumanizing. The problem with you guys is that when you get caught on something like this, you can't simply take your licks and let it go. You will go down fighting, tooth and nail, even if everyone knows your position is indefensible.

This is obvious from the context. But the context deflates the attempt at rage baiting.

On the other hand, we have the guy who successfully got the White House in 2016 who says all sorts of outrageous things, but his fan club wants to consistently tell us that he means something else, or that we can't take his words at face value, or that he is being misrepresented.

The guy who said "When Mexico sends its people, its not sending its best" and we aren't supposed to believe said anything negative about Mexican immigrants when he spoke of Mexico sending its worse, saying they are rapists, criminals, and drug-peddlers, and who has continued to spread nasty things about immigrants from south of the American border as well as immigrants (here legally or illegally, it doesn't matter) such as doubling and tripling down on the lies being told online about the Haitian community in Ohio--well we are just misunderstanding him. He's not a racist, a xenophobe, and a fear-mongering grifter who is incapable of distinguishing fact and fiction. No, he is a stable genius. He's not racist, that's just what the "liberal media" the "mainstream media" is telling us. He's not xenophobic, that's just lies from the left, what the lying "fake news" is saying. He's not xenophobic or saying xenophobic things, those are lies--but also, we need to be afraid of all these scary immigrants because they are "poisoning the blood" of the nation. It's not xenophobia, it's just be very concerned, afraid, and angry about all these foreigners.

*drops two pennies down the well* that's what I got today.

Trump shows all the traits of a malignant narcissist. As I understand it, dealing with the contagion is also tied to the danger levels of psychopathy. I can understand the frustration of dealing with the victims and how it's difficult to separate personality from a persona.

I have heard Christians say things like,

"D not cast your pearls to the swine"

But of course that is OK, for you.

You have heard of parables I m sure, most related to nature, because that is what is easy to grasp,

Unless one is some kind of grammar nazi.

PS, made me smile with your "when you get caught on something"

Except that citizens weren't just let into the country. Your point is s ridiculous one.

People killed, asssulted, raped etc by our rotten immigration policy would still be whole.

I suppose if you let a stranger into your house and they killed your wife, you would not think, "i guess I shouldn't have let him in. After all my son might have killed her."

Earlier in this thread, I used the phrase "if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck,..." to suggest that using imagery likening immigrants to insects, vermin, etc. was a strong marker for racism / xenophobia. At least one poster has responded by implying that my characterizing others as "ducks" is just as offensive.

Really? Well, if you ever hear a racist or xenophobe refer to immigrants as a "flock of ducks", then, and only then, you would have a point.

Did you think we were born yesterday?

The point is that people hurt each other. Unless you can demonstrate that migrants are more likely to hurt others than non-migrants (and who knows, they might be lousy drivers), then this argument is stupid and obviously bigoted. By that logic, you're best off living alone in the middle of nowhere - except that, oops, people still hurt themselves and proximity to a hospital is one of the bigger drivers in accident fatality rates.

Negative. The point is our immigration policy is killing, raping and assaulting Americans who would otherwise have been safe.

As you pointed out we do enough damage to each other without inviting in more people who will do damage to us.
