They all couldn't have been wrong.

What do you even mean by that? Check the maps. For example, the Babylonian one shows Babylon and some few other locally important places. Where is Europe? Where is Asia? Where is America, Australia?

Of course these maps are "wrong" - they are only local, never global. And circle was seen as a perfect shape, thats why they drew their maps like that. Its just a cultural thing, nothing supernaturally inspired.
