I have already had some engagements and interactions so I guess I better introduce myself here.

I have been saved for 43 years which is my entire adult life. I was raised a Roman Catholic and got saved when I was 18 so you do the math...

I am a Navy Veteran, a business owner, musician, husband, father, and grandfather. My hobbies include fishing, wrenching on classic trucks, and building and repairing guitars.

I am a Baptist, a deacon in my church, and a current seminary student finishing up a master's degree. I am married to a Filipina lady and am therefore quite active in the Filipino community both here in Texas as well as in the Philippines. I also teach our adult Sunday School class and leading our church's participation with the Texas Port Ministry.

I am theologically conservative, a historic fundamentalist (not the wacky type), somewhat Calvinistic (not antagonistic though), and lean mostly towards the historic premillennial position. I mainly use the King James Bible but mostly out of habit. I also have an ESV Study Bible that I refer to regularly.

Glad to have you!

Roll up your sleeves and dig right in!

The ride is rough, these guys are tough, but Jesus is enough!

(Okay, I made that up. ;))

Here's where I post a lot:

Well I just had to check out a post that says "Howdy". And sure enough, a fellow Texan. I bet you'll address people as "folks" in your posts now and then, too. Where ya planted? I've been in Austin since 1983 (not entirely by choice, ah hmm...).

Little segue you'll enjoy. My only stint out of Texas was in Jackson, Miss. for 2 years. In all seriousness, some there think that all Texans have oil wells in our back yards. Not real friendly *shrug*.

Glad you're here. Gee, it's not like you're gathering moss on your back, is it?

Welcome to the forums. Also, it is cool that you are married to a Filipina lady. :) Also, the ESV is a good Bible, and classic cars/trucks are better than modern cars and trucks. 1930s -1970s GM Chevy trucks are pretty cool, though I do not know much about them. My friend plays guitar. What is your favorite brand/model of guitar? My friend likes Gibson, Epiphone, Ovation and Taylor.

Yep, as they say, never ask a man where he is from. If he is from Texas, he will tell you and if he is not, why would you want to embarrass the the poor fella? I live in Sugar Land which is just outside of Houston. I spent a good bit of time in exile out on the "Left Coast" stationed out there in the military and then working in the aerospace industry.

I do like the ESV and I do call it my "Alexandrian Version of Choice!" I used to be Independent Baptist and strict KJVO and God really had to work on me to get past all that nonsense! My favorite trucks are the OBS (Old Body Style) Ford and Chevy trucks made around the 1990s. I had a '93 F-150 4x4 that I had running fairly good but ended up selling it because the wife did not like it leaking oil in her driveway!

I have a closet full of guitars. Acoustics, electrics, and basses. I was out gigging for a while playing with bands and doing singer-songwriter stuff. My absolute favorite guitar is the one I just bought: a Martin D-18 that I have not yet taken out of the house! Our Church worship team insists I play electric guitar and for that I am mainly a Fender Stratocaster/Telecaster sort of guy. I recently acquired the "guitar building" bug and just recently built a "telecaster" type guitar for my granddaughter and am currently putting together a "Frankenstein" guitar from parts I have laying around in the garage.

It is good that God got you out of the KJVO mindset. I do like the NKJV though as well and NIV. 1990s trucks are also good. :) My friend also owns a Martin, while my other friend has a Fender. Hopefully, your Frankenstein guitar project goes well. You could do a weekly update on your guitar construction project in the hobbies section of the forum.

Haha... All Scripture is good and meant for reproof. KJ, NKJV, ESV, NRSV and NIV are all good. Just stay away from the Message or JW translations.

What's Satan's angelic name?

Correct.

Where did you get that name?

I have a feeling you know the point I'm making.
I have gotten it from the NIV and other Bibles. But, I see your point. However, this thread is meant to greet a Texan guy, not debate his or my Bible preferences. :)

Lucifer was the Latin translation for the underlying Hebrew word helel in Isaiah 14:12 and is also used in the King James and Douay-Rhemes English translations. In the Greek Septuagint, it is translated as ὁ ἑωσφόρος (eosphorus) which means "light bringer" or day bringer and the English word "Phosphorus" is a transliteration.

With all this said, it seems clear that "Lucifer" was never intended as the "Proper Name" for the angel now referred to as Satan which interestingly, is a transliteration of the Hebrew word hasatan which means "adversary, opponent, or one who withstands" and it is interesting that in Numbers 22:32, where the Angel of the Lord withstands Balaam, the phrase "to withstand thee" is translated from lesatan so is the Angel of the Lord being referred to as "Satan?"

Another interesting fun fact for you is that in the Latin Vulgate, 2 Pet 1:19 refers to Jesus as Lucifer!

Et habemus firmiorem propheticum sermonem: cui benefacitis attendentes quasi lucernæ lucenti in caliginoso donec dies elucescat, et lucifer oriatur in cordibus vestris:
Ya'll have fun now!
