Hi everyone! I'm an autistic Christian who has been rejected at every church (except one) that I've ever walked into. I'm hoping to find others who have had difficulties with churches not being very accomodating to those with autism. The bible says that we all need fellowship wity each other as well as with God. I'm hoping I can find that here.

Welcome to the forums. Seems that many churches are anti-Christian, as a true Christian church would not reject someone for being different.

Welcome, also misunderstood in churches sadly, asperger/autistic.
If you can go to a church just to have fellowship with God, and trying not to deal with people much, God can still do things, even if people don't understand you.

Thank you for your kind reply, Alex! One thing I've learned, is that virtually every church is geared toward the "normal" "average" person, which just doesn't work for many, many people. I read the page you linked to and there was some great info there. I especially liked the testimony of Frank!

You are welcome, bro. Sadly, you will find that the world is not geared for different people, but remember, this life is fleeting, and in a few dozen years, we will meet Jesus. But yes, Frank gave a good explanation of autism to me, and he attributes the Bible and the Holy Spirit to his explanation.

It can be hard to be accepted because we're different. I know a thing or two about autism, and I have a friend who has dyslexia and another friend who is almost blind.

So it's understanbadle feeling like you don't fit in. But I think Jesus would have been inclusive.

I am a deaf Christian and don't really attend church because people just smile and maybe say a few words via my interpreter. It is hard to endure and often discouraging. I need fellowship with others who are willing to share their love and friendship with more than just a "Hi and Goodbye." Right now all I can do is continue with God in prayer. Who knows?

They do have churches for the deaf, or churches with interpreters. I will pray for you. Also, a lot of folks in the US focus on themselves instead of fellowshipping with others, so do not be discouraged. Just find a church that suits your needs.

I have non-Christian relatives who are autistic, 100% blind, Down's syndrome, PTSD, etc. Most of my relatives won't speak to me, I've had trouble making friends because my parents divorced and didn't have close friends, my mom moved every year, threw away what few belongings we enjoyed, didn't want us to invite others to our home, we had to change schools each year, some years 2 or 3 times, our mom didn't smoke or drink or do drugs (thank God), but our lives weren't normal. It's kind of embarrasing to talk about and I've left out a few things. Most of my relatives are opposed to religion, so I'm an odd one. I'm old now and hope heaven is as beautiful as it sounds.

One thing with bigger churches is they have families with kids so the members can be overly reactive regarding a man who "doesn't seem quite right".

I go to a church that has a small fellowship of older adults so I don't encounter that aspect. And the pastor has experience working with autistic people so that's another benefit. I know he's not observing me and thinking "that guy seems different, what's up with that?".

So pray about it. Keep asking the Lord to direct you to the right church. That worked out for me.

I'm a schizophrenic Christian, I can relate. My last church didn't work out. Ended up being too much drama with other members outside of the church.

I was even invited to another after I left but held out. Hopefully I can find the right one as well.

I dont know how though, idk if it's the schizophrenia or something else but everyone I know thinks I'm a Satanist or sociopath.

Struggle is real, fortunately it doesn't matter what.others think, it's a personal relationship between us and God. His will be done, not ours.

In California I attended one but here in Glendale/Phx, Az the only church is a deaf 7th Day Adventist church 50 miles east. My church provides an interpreter but I am the only deaf person there so you can imagine friendships and sharing is tough. I can truly understand the other members with the problem.

Well, sometimes life will hand you lemons. Remember, this life is fleeting, so maybe you can try to make deaf friends outside of church and bring them to your church.

I don't know if this could help, but maybe just for now in the short term, there are online Church services. Not saying its a long term solution, but just something you can do in the meantime.

I second this, though I do prefer to go to church in person. Online is a stop-gap solution that can work well for some folks.

My son is autistic (Asperger's Syndrome) but he is always greeted in a friendly manner by pastor and elders at our church.
In fact, church is the one place I have no difficulty in getting him to go out with me.
