  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

From one of the greatest ministers of our time.

Rev Billy Grahams message on the cross of Christ.

You might be interested to know that Rev. Billy Graham was much loved by the Russian Orthodox Church, because during the dark years of the Soviet Union, he was able to preach there, at a time when the Russian church was prohibited by the Communist government from engaging in much preaching or catechesis, and so Billy Graham received a blessing from the Patriarch of Moscow to preach in the country, and this was of great benefit for all Christians in Russia.

Billy Graham was indeed visited on his deathbed by Metropolitan Hilarion of Budapest, who at the time was in charge of the Department of External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate (which he resigned from in 2022, while remaining the Metropolitan of Budapest, presiding over the majority of Orthodox churches in Hungary).

Billy Graham was embraced and loved by many.

Yes, may his memory be eternal! He was a pious and faithful Christian who was blessed with a profound gift of articulating the Gospel and communicating basic truths about the Gospel.

I have this photograph of him with Metropolitan Hilarion Alfeyev of Budapest, on his 96th birthday, in 2014:

And a great Southern Baptist!

Indeed.

You may not be aware of this, but I regard Dr. Albert Mohler as the foremost Western moral theologian at present. I do not agree with him on issues such as sacramental theology, but when it comes to moral theology, in the West at present I can’t think of anyone else who is doing as much good work around fighting the evil in issues such as abortion and sexual perversion.

I greatly admire the SBC denomination also for how it recovered itself from an attempted liberal takeover, like the LCMS, in the 1970s. We came very close to the nightmarish scenario wherein the SBC and the LCMS would have been mentioned in the same context as other mainline churches, or indeed, they would have ceased to exist, since the SBC would have merged with the ABC and the LCMS would have been absorbed into the ELCA.

Yes indeed, when Dr. Albert Mohler became president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Rev. Billy Graham spoke at his inauguration. Dr. Mohler also wrote a beautiful eulogy of Rev. Graham.
