  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I’m voting for Trump because he’s a white man.

The right is always accused of hysteria for suggesting alternative lifestyles people are groomers or go after children yet I see it being constantly advocated to teach such things to children.
Seems to me, if the right is always being accused of this, it's because they often hysterically accuse people of such things when nothing of the sort is going on.

But...perhaps you have an example to share, just to see what specific instances you're talking about? And please include the constant advocating you also mentioned.

Like Pink Floyd said "Leave those kids alone."
Pink Floyd also said "Careful with that axe, Eugene," so clearly they also advocate safety.

-- A2SG, and the band is also very friendly, welcoming people to the machine and all that.....

Maybe Trump should give them a listen. I'm sure he'd love Another Brick In The Wall.

Makes absolutely no sense.
What makes no sense? I simply asked for an example of something you claimed was being "constantly advocated". If these things are happening as constantly as you claim, then it shouldn't be difficult to provide an example.

-- A2SG, that you haven't provided an example is what leads me to believe nothing like what you describe is actually going on....

I responded to an example and I don't have anything to prove to you. I'm not concerned about what you think.
What made no sense was your Pink Floyd reference, but you shouldn't care what I think.
Here's a sample but it's "just satire" . Yeah, right

I responded to an example
Is this the example: "We shouldn’t educate children to the realities of the right of homosexual persons (and other sexual-minorities), to exist and have the same legal standing as heterosexual people?" (Pommer)

How does this indicate anyone is "grooming" children, or somehow going after them in some way?

This is why I said "Seems to me, if the right is always being accused of this, it's because they often hysterically accuse people of such things when nothing of the sort is going on."

and I don't have anything to prove to you. I'm not concerned about what you think.
This is a discussion board, we're all here to discuss stuff. If you don't want to discuss stuff, then perhaps you shouldn't post stuff...because posting stuff often leads to people expecting you to discuss it. Just sayin'.

What made no sense was your Pink Floyd reference, but you shouldn't care what I think.
You quoted Pink Floyd, so I referenced another of their songs. It's from Relics.

-- A2SG, and I am curious about what you think....if you want to interpret that as caring, well, I'm not going to argue the point....

Okay. So, tell me....exactly what does that choir claim they're going to do? "Convert your children," is the lyric....convert how? Convert to what, exactly?

I see a lot of fearmongering in that site you linked to, but very little substance. What, exactly, did the choir say in that song that is so threatening?

Please, when answering, be specific, and use direct quotes. Too often, paraphrasing leads to misrepresentation, and I'd like to avoid that, if possible.

-- A2SG, let's see what's actually behind the fearmongering.....

We'll convert your children is not funny. This is the very thing they're accused of trying to do.
And people say they are mocking conservatives when they march and chant "We're here, we're queer and we're coming for your children "
When people tell you who they are you should listen.
It doesn't help their cause

There wasn't enough to worry about in the lyrics, which satirically used the term often used against gay people to emphasise that they would convert children to be tolerant and fair (yeah, I know - the horror), so people had to disgracefully accuse some of the choir as being convicted child rapists.

Those accusations were also posted in this forum.

No accusations.
For sure.

If one couldn't convince people that the lyrics meant just the opposite of how any reasonable person would recognise them (some people have difficulty with irony and satire) then they'd need to show that the guys singing them were dangerous child molesters. As in 'but no, it's not enough - we need to defame these guys and accuse them of raping children so then our warning will be heeded! Otherwise...it's just gay guys saying that they'll make our children more tolerant. And where would that lead!'

Some think it's best to have our children think they're in danger from all gay people.

It's also not specific. I asked before, convert how? To what?

I'd ask the same question to a religious group making the same threat, by the way.

This is the very thing they're accused of trying to do.

Yeah. And? What, exactly, do they claim they'll do once they get them?

Do they say? Or do you just assume the worst, automatically, without question?

When people tell you who they are you should listen.

I'll ask the same question I asked before, but has gone unanswered since:

Forgot the choir I'm talking about the people marching and saying "We're here, we're queer and we're coming for your children"
That doesn't sound good no matter what you try to make it mean.
When someone says "I'm coming for your child " do you really ask what they intend to do with your child or do you protect your child?
It was obviously meant to be provocative and disturbing and it is.

Depends on how you choose to characterize it. It's only menacing if you decide to see menace in it.

When someone says "I'm coming for your child " do you really ask what they intend to do with your child or do you protect your child?
My in-laws said something like that when they came to pick up the kid to stay at their house for a while.

All depends on how you choose to see it.

It was obviously meant to be provocative and disturbing and it is.
If so, mission accomplished.

Now, think...why would they want to do something like that?

-- A2SG, must be a reason, don't cha think?

Your in laws are not a mob of strangers.
I don't care why they did it, it hurts their cause and reinforces negative stereotypes about them.
They probably do it for the same reason some people dress provocatively and engage in lewd behavior in public.

So you think the people meant they are coming to physically take my children somewhere? That’s the only way to equate it with it with your in-laws.
