  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Howdy all, the text of Romans 13:1-6 seems to be plainly written in terms of its intent & meaning.
And of course, it was written to folk who were under the rule/boot of Rome(Nero..).
So, my question is: if the text means how it reads, then how could anyone who is a believer,
rise up against his/her government, without being outside the will of God?
appreciate some thoughts,
~Rich

Well who says they were believers, for an example John Adams
Adams was raised in the Congregational church. In Quincy, the Unitarian faction was dominant and included Adams and his father. It was a new force in the colonies and denied the Trinity and the divinity of Jesus Christ.

The OP didn't say that the governments were/are believers. Indeed the opposite was implied, as mention was made of the current government at the time Romans was written was the Roman emperor Nero.
