I do not trust autonomous vehicles yet, but I do hope that flying cars are fully autonomous when the tech matures. When I was a young kid in 2012-13 or so, I thought we would have autonomous flying cars by 2030, with driverless land cars by the end of the 2010s. That tech did not happen. For electricity, we did not know much about electrons back in the 1880s, as we did not discover electrons until 1897. Electrons are probably my favorite particle, as they do so much work for us in modern society, from being used for lighting, to being used inside our computers, and even powering spacecraft.

I am okay with hybrids on the road, especially Japanese and American made ones, but not with full EVs such as Tesla, as Musk's personality is not my type, and the greed runs rampant in the EV industry (same could be said for the oil industry). We need more public transit as a solution to travel within cities, with cars only relegated for road trips and travel between cities. Also, EVs die in the cold winters of Northern states such as Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois. In summary, 2035 is way too early to be enforcing tailpipe emissions until the tech matures. We could change the rule to 2045, to allow a decade more of time for innovation to increase.
I agree we need more, and better, public transport options in our cities. You can blame GM for much of the fact that there's a lack of that, since they conspired with other car and tire manufacturers to scuttle the streetcar system in many cities. They were even taken to court over it. We both agree on more public transit. I might have watched a short documentary on how GM was forcing the death of trams/streetcars in certain areas. For that, everyone should boycott GMC and Chevy (unless those are the only affordable cars in one's city). Also, how come GM was only fined $5,000? Now, that would be worth a lot more in 2024 (around $60K), but still, for a large car company, if I was a court, I would have fined 100x that or more. At least some cities are trying to bring back streetcars, but the damage has been done.
To be fair, she did back a mandate in 2019 (a bill that didn't pass that would have required all vehicles sold in the US to be electric by 2040), and during her 2020 campaign, she proposed a push to do that by 2035. However, it's been 4 years, and perhaps she's changed her thinking. Personally, I can respect people who are willing to change their positions in the face of new information. I've never really understood the idea of "flip-flopping" as a negative unless you're talking about a core belief.

When I was younger, I lived in Boston, and used public transportation constantly. It was pretty cheap, and for the most part, easy to deal with. Well, apart from crowds on occasion, especially the Green Line. But I couldn't have imagined trying to live in the city with a car back then. It's bad enough these days, when I'm in the suburbs.
Ahh, so glad I do not drive (long story, but relates to my executive functioning disorder, have never driven myself). The suburbs also kinda suck, from what I have heard. Public transit is a blessing, and I wish my city had more public transit, though we did install a BRT (bus rapid transit). Boston sounds like a pretty cool city. Did you go to any one of those colleges there? Boston is only a few miles from Cambridge, MA, an area with ivy league schools and great post-secondary education from what I have heard.
Yeah, I grew up in the city for my earlier years, and later on in a suburb, but after high school when I was living on my own, it was in the city. I worked for a few years, then eventually went on to college, Suffolk University. Best time of my life, met my future wife there, working on the school newspaper.

Um, it's a lot closer than that. Literally, there's just the Charles River separating the two cities.
