  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sure, you can practice what’ve religion you want in the country. But that doesn’t mean you can’t restrict immigration.

The government has no right to legislate to restrict immigration based upon religious concerns.

Immigration should be regulated based upon other factors.

He never said that.
How about we listen to what he actually said then. They recorded it and it has been posted on the internet.

"Donald J Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States..."

I'd imagine they would both gladly put aside their differences to destroy infidels.

Sufi's?

Never ... They wouldn't. They wouldn't ride besides you necessarily but they wouldn't be helping Wahhabis... They are non violent. I have no idea what their system is but I absolutely know it's really different....

There's a few sects associated with Islam that are fine, but they don't have all the same books in common.

But what did he actually do while president. Hint: It wasn't a Muslim ban.

Let's hear what Trump actually campaigned on.

"Donald J Trump is calling for a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States..."
Well guess what? It never happened, there was terrorism going on and you don’t live in America.

It was certainly different from what he campaigned on.

A much cut down version.
Even that cut down version was initially judged by the courts to be unconstitutional and so his administration had to cut it down even further in order to get the courts to agree to it.

Did you agree with what he campaigned on? Where you hoping he would fulfill that campaign promise? Do you see any problems with what he was campaigning on there?

What he said, did happen, there is video footage of him saying it. He did say that. I don't have to live in North or South America to have seen it. The internet reaches far beyond the American continents.

Trump didn't campaign on banning terrorists. that would have been silly, since USA already had anti-terrorist policies.
Trump capaigned on a Muslim ban. Note: Muslims aren't terrorists. Some are, Some USA people are terrorists too, Some Christians are terroroists. Just in general, some people are terrorists regardless of their skin colour or religious affiliation.

Not nearly as cut down as that cherry picked clip.

Huh?

People were disputing that Trump wanted a Muslim ban. That clip shows Trump telling the cameras that he wanted a Muslim ban.

I pointed out in earlier posts that it wasn’t a “Muslim” ban and that this term was propaganda from a demo in the US house of reps. The executive action was temporary, 8 years ago, to address a terrorism problem. Your Ardern had a travel ban for over 2 years during the Covid crisis.

It wasn't propaganda from Democrats, it was a clear campaign promise that Trump made, that he was going to immediately implement a Muslim ban.

I'm not sure if his supporters were disappointed when the ban his administration tried to implement was clearly cut down, watered down version of his promise, or if they were excited that at least some Muslims were being shut out.

The Musilims that he banned, weren't terrorists, they were just everyday people.

She isn't MY Ardern. But she protected NZ really well, she saved thousands of lives and manage to erradicate the virus entirely from our shores and so for most of the pre vaccine Pandemic time, we didn't have to wear masks, we weren't locked down or socially isolated, we were even able to attend sporting events in stadiums. Life was pretty free back then. We just didn't have any tourists.

When you have to put entire countries on a travel ban you do end up banning nice people too... It's just common sense.

So you can protect your home space but America can’t. Personally, I think Ardern made the right move but if Trump did it, you’d disapprove.

It seems odd to try and equate NZ shutting down its borders to all non citizens during a deadly global pandemic, with Trump making a campaign promise to stop Muslims coming into USA.

The NZ ban was not based on Religion, Race, Culture whereas Trump said he was targetting people of the Muslim religion.

Have you actually read my first 3 or 4 posts in this thread?

It's a real conversation we need to have as a society...as a purely moral issue I would see no problems with it. We have a society and a culture here to protect.

I don't have to virtue signal. Others may not appreciate this country but I would defend it with my life.

There is a parallel incident with Trump and the beginning of the pandemic as well. Trump blocked the entrance of citizens of China into the US as an anti-coronovirus measure, but did not block those travelling from China. Again he chose "race" rather than what might actually do something. (BLocking travel from infected countries.) (The virus was spreading rapidly and was everywhere already by then, including the US, so it wouldn't have made much difference, but the intent was certainly mangled.)

From the Gulf War in 1991, to the Iraq war in 2003, to the “Arab Spring” debacle and humanitarian disaster, the US has made a shambles of the Middle East with a permanent flow of refugees. Trump had nothing to do with this and brought much of it to an end during his presidency. Now it is business as usual with wars and refugees fleeing upheaval. Don’t lecture about some temporary measure that actually helped put a pause in death and destruction.
