  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Massive protests expected at Chicago’s DNC; police are ready

Again, context. If you had bothered to follow the conversation back just one post; you might have grasped what we were talking about.
I got that. I addressed the issue of propaganda and the media further down in that post.

-- A2SG, you did see that, right?

Again the voters do not vote for Vice Presidents. They vote for Presidents. This hasn't changed since the last time that I pointed this out.
Another fact that hasn't changed is the fact that if a President can't fulfill the duties of the office for whatever reason, the Vice President will replace him. Everyone who voted for Joe Biden in 2024 knew who his running mate was, and knew that, if something happened, Kamala Harris would replace him.

Well, something happened.

Granted, the only part of his duties that Biden wasn't able to fulfill was that of a candidate for another term in office, and it is in that capacity that Harris has replaced him. If you don't like that, you're free to not vote for her. She won't assume that office without votes, like Gerald Ford did in 1974.

-- A2SG, not unless something else happens, heaven forbid....

People make decisions under coercion every day.
Sure, it can happen. But, unless you were in the room where it happened, you can't possibly know if this was or wasn't the case with Biden. And he seemed fine with his decision in his speech at the DNC, so...

-- A2SG, but you're still free to not vote for her if you don't like the way things happened....

A mostly peaceful arsonist's rampage?
I guess that could be possible, if the arsonist rampaged peacefully before setting the fire, or somehow managed to set the fire peacefully.

-- A2SG, granted, I have no idea how that would work, exactly, but it wasn't my example, so it's not my problem....

That's a convenient story. Makes absolutely no sense; but other than that it's a great story.

No more than you could possibly know that he left without coercion, after he had just said that there was no way that he was bowing out, right before he had private conversations with Obama, Pelosi, and others.

What about it doesn't make sense? Biden ended his candidacy for reelection, and endorsed Harris to run for the office herself instead.

Granted, it's unusual, even unprecedented. But not hard to understand.

No, I wasn't in the room where it happened either. I never said I knew, definitively, why he decided to drop out of the race. I only know he did so, and endorsed Harris to replace him. I didn't see anyone holding a gun to his head when he did that, for example.

No one forced him out against his will. No one impeached him and removed him from office, no one invoked the 25th Amendment. Those are the only ways I know of to force a president out of office.

Different protest groups...
I see you've accepted the usual definitions of protest and riot. Well done. Keep hanging in there for some violence. Be sure to stay tuned in. You don't want to miss any.

Which convention? The last one?
It was a joke. Given that she is on record admitting that she rejected Trump's offer to provide National Guard troops to defend the capital on Jan 6, 2021. So I thought it was ironic that you sarcastically asked where the National Guard was. My suggestion is to ask Nancy Pelosi.

This has been done to death before. I'll repost this but don't expect any further response from me on the matter. You can ignore the facts if you like.

'A government memo about the events leading up to Jan. 6, statements from Pelosi’s office and the Pentagon and testimony from the former House sergeant-at-arms show Trump did not request 10,000 troops ahead of the rally.

Drew Hammill, Pelosi's spokesperson, told USA TODAY that Pelosi’s office was not consulted or contacted regarding any request for the National Guard ahead of Jan. 6, and he noted the speaker of the House does not have the power to reject that type of request.

Claims that Pelosi was in charge of Capitol security on Jan. 6 have been previously debunked by USA TODAY. The Capitol Police are overseen by the Capitol Police Board and committees from the Senate and House of Representatives.'

I don't trust "fact checkers" because they have a nasty habit of being wrong, just like this one. It claimed Trump's offer to Pelosi was "false" because "there was no evidence that such an offer was made." No evidence until Nancy opened her mouth and admitted it and proved Pelosi was partially to blame and she lied to cover it up. I trust what Nancy Pelosi actually is recorded on video admitting. So you can take your almost 3 year old confirmation bias elsewhere.

He could have had terminal cancer with three hours to live, but if the cop killed him first, it's murder.
It was Lloyd who passed fake money first, and then resisted arrest second.
Also, the knee on the back thing was standard procedure, and nobody ever died of it unless they took a lethal dose of drugs first.

No. But if the Republicans promised to drop Trump? I'd give you the election in a heartbeat and throw a party.
Drop Trump for who? Someone has to be a replacement. Sean Hannity? Steve Bannon? Charlie Kirk?
I doubt the other side would be happy with anyone. Gotta demonize your opponent if your own candidate has nothing to brag about.
But as Barack recently said at the convention, Harris will focus on your problems rather than her own. (An oopsie from Obama!)

Calling it "mostly peaceful" acknowledges that it wasn't entirely peaceful.

Going back to the Lucky Charms analogy, if there are only a few marshmallows compared to a whole lot of cereal, you can't say it was all marshmallow, can you?

That's some nice mental gymnastics, but it doesn't win a medal.
