  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

UK will extradite Americans for social media posts

Again, at some point we have to say if it walks and talks like a duck, it’s likely a duck.

Right.

Generally I'd agree....however, in the interest of being generous with my fellow man....I choose whatever is the least offensive possible interpretation so as to extend the benefit of doubt.

The fact it thinks it’s an eagle is fun trivia, but doesn’t change that it is a duck.

Well it wasn't as obvious as a racial slur...but it was a broad based generalization about an entire race.

Still, I don't think he's racist.

Anyway having traditional values, is being called 'far right' now, so and 'extemist' i'm pretty sure.
'Far right' now doesn't mean anything they just slap that term to anything that doesn't follow their ideas.

I’m wildly in love with Tom Clancy books and do a lot of reading about related topics while seeing how much in them is fact or fiction.

Ok...

Without me reviewing the actual case mentioned earlier in the thread, I've got at least 2 safe assumptions....

1. The person driving in the UK that killed someone by accident had diplomatic immunity, as it both allowed their escape to the US, and seems to have prevented their extradition.

2. This diplomatic immunity was genuinely approved for this person prior to their travel to the UK. It wasn't granted after the accident or granted improperly....otherwise it would have been revoked and they would be extradited.

Does that make sense?

How so..??? You can't even openly support a certain political affiliation in your country without being chastised or imprisoned.

...Just like in Russia but in mirror image (reverse).
Nonsense it was only a decade or so ago when the BNP held a seat in the EU parliament and the natural successor Reform took 14% this election.

The apparent video wouldn't play, but I think this police dude has his verbs wrong. "extradite" is what nations/states do when another jurisdiction makes are request for someone to be transferred for trial. That whole business with Julian Assange was because the US wanted the UK to extradite him here for trial.

Grammar correction for the UK PC aside..

Good luck with that, buddy.

The US, like most countries, doesn't usually extradite for things that aren't crimes in their countries. It takes a lot for pure speech to become a crime in the US.

So go ahead and charge anyone you'd like Mr. UK PC, but you can't just "come after you".

It was the US that declared war in 1812, and they lost, or at least drew with the white house burned down.
I want to be pedantic again...

There was no "White House" in 1814. The British invaders did burn many things in Washington including the Capitol and the Executive Mansion (President's House). The latter was painted white to cover up the fire damage and later was known as the White House. Cheers.

Would I be able to say, for example, that the prophet Muhammad was a mentally ill, pedophilic, illiterate warlord and tyrant?

Well ... Im not so sure about that .... I mean the term "hate speech". ... considered a crime in both the UK and the US. Say if the "hate speech" used is towards the UK and not towards the US and the UK wanted to extradite the person for that would the US comply? or ... would the US prosecute on the US side? or possibly be prosecuted by both?

I don't dismiss it as a possibility ... we are living in strange times.

Getting more narrow all the time seems like.

It’s more:

3. She said she would cooperate and not leave the country, she was told to return to the US by an unknown agent of the US, the U.K. was told to submit any objections they had in writing, which they did 2 days later to find they had left the day before. Then the US declined the request to waive and extradite on the basis that it was negligence and not malice, but ultimately she appeared virtually, was charged, pled guilty, sentenced, and (it is assumed) not allowed back.

Her case is a tricky one, though, because it’s a spouse there is the absence of malice. If she had intentionally run somebody over or there was a contributing factor that overrides malice (like intoxication), it is profoundly likely she would have not been told to go home. Either way, she was held accountable.

Just imagine how offended the Russians must feel.
They are too busy fighting off an invading army. :)

Invasions of the US since the British invasion of 1812: None
Invasions of Russia since 1812: France (1815), France, UK, Ottoman Empire (1854), Allied intervention in Russian Civil War (1918), Poland (1919), Germany (1941), Finland (1941), Ukraine (2024)

Judaism is not so generous concerning "Free speech", there are about six things one should remind oneself of each day.

One is "Remember what God did to Miriam."

Besides one should avoid gossip and slander.

So it is more for the good.

Would reckon.

Jurisdictional issues, wonder what he was smoking.

UK cops can't do anything to people in other countries.
You wouldn't think so ... governments could .... all governments hate the fact that people are talking about things online .... they are all against free speech ... what they want is controlled speech (controlled by them) ... hard to say where all this goes???
