  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Devastated Donald Trump rants publicly about his magical thinking over Joe Biden's presidential campaign. As recently as last Friday, Trump continued to invoke "Crooked or Sleepy Joe"

Will Saletan breaks down his stages of grief.

Our politicians are so knee-jerk in their actions that I bet a lot of Republicans wished they'd kept their mouths shut about Biden stepping down now that Kamala's polling numbers are up. I shook my head at their stupidity because Joe was good for the Republicans and their party's election. They should have been more positive but in tribal warfare, all we know how to do is drop bombs.

It was mostly Democrats complaining about VP Kamala Harris as a problem until she magically became the nominee. Now she's like the best thing ever for Democrats. Funny how they all fell in line.

It was mostly Republicans complaining about Biden incompetence until the debate. Then the Democrats saw how bad he was and canned him themselves with almost no assistance from the Republicans. Biden's debate performance was a self-inflicted wound. He had no clothes and they all kind of instantly figured that out. He was 'sharp as a tack' until he wasn't. Kamala's nomination may be a self-inflicted wound before it's all over. It's not like her not being Joe Biden is going to carry her that far.

You are right about tribalism, about people carrying signs mostly saying hurray for our side. Actually most expressing hate for the other side. The tribes are fighting a massive propaganda war now, with only occasional shootings. My prediction is that it will get much hotter after the election, particularly if Trump somehow wins. I'm not sure what such a civil war would look like. Maybe like Lebanon or Northern Ireland. But there they were neighborhood against neighborhood. This will be neighbor against neighbor. I don't see any way to escape it short of a Harris/Walz victory and a police state. I think the country is going down one way or the other.

.....
Not being Joe Biden helps. But that could wear off.

Not being Donald Trump really helps. And that will only become clearer as the campaign grinds on - and Trumps decline becomes even more apparent.

IMO, Will Saleten (video) nailed Trump's pysche.

Trump though he had Biden, and the race, wrapped up. (probably right)
Then Biden did something unfathomable to a self-centered Trump - Biden gave up power in the interest of the country.
And ever since, Trump has been pining for Biden.....even fantasizing that Biden will re-claim his nominee status at the DNC....

It's always been about owning the Libs. It's scoring points. There's nothing about governing (no facts and figures just "I'll make all the bad go away") in the Trumpian electoral campaign.

It's been that way since Newt played a key role in undermining democratic norms.

Biden's party forced Biden out for the good of Biden's party.

Trump can't fathom that happening to him either.
At this point, post-convention, short of being shot again and in a coma, it ain't gonna happen. Trump controls the Republican Party. Biden wasn't in much control of anything towards the end.

...yesterday in PA (still missing Joe)

“What happened to Biden? I was running against Biden and now I’m running against someone else,” Trump said. “I said, ‘Who am I running against, Harris?’ I said, ‘Who the h*** is Harris?’”

Trump can say anything at his rallies because all the people there are always Trumpers. If he loses the election it's all his doing because he's not speaking to the independents. Harris seems to be trying to draw independent voters by what some here call flip-flopping on issues which is a smart move by her handlers. Question? If Harris wins and completes 4 years as president can she run for another 8?

Well she absolutely can run for another 4. The question is whilst a president cannot run for 3 consecutive terms, is their a rule against running again after losing the presidency. For example could Obama run for a third term?

“no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President or acted as President for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.”

So no.

Even if Biden stood down and she was officially president, so long as she has not been pres for more than two years she can still run for the full two terms.

I see. Thinking from Trump's point of view since he's already had one term he couldn't run for two more either. The reason why I mentioned Kamala is because I have a feeling she might win.

The situation has definitely turned from a Trump coronation, to an actual election.
