  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I trust the Holy Bible the most, and as for the Satanic bible...........well, I don't really trust it at all. ;)

I don't know if I would say trust, but I tend to rely on the NKJV. The ones I trust the least are the New World Translation of the JWs, The Message, and the KJV.

I agree that the NWT is untrustworthy, the message is strange, and the KJV is antiquated in language and in textual basis. I do not use the NKJV because it has so many missing books.

I trust the Bibles in the green and yellow sections of the chart below the most (NKJV, ESV, NIV, NRSV/NRSV-CE), and the Bibles in the red section the least.

Well I have an Orthodox Study Bible. The old testament is based on the Septuagint so all of the books are in it. It uses the NKJV for the new testament.

I have several Bibles, KJV, NIV, and RSV.
I have the Orthodox Study Bible that I use to reference regularly.
I also have the Holy Gospel and the Holy Apostle (it's the NT in two volumes minus the Apocalypse) in Eastern Orthodox Bible translation (EOB), a formal Modern English translation from the Patriarchal Text of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the official Greek translation of the Orthodox Church and marked with the daily readings.
I would prefer to use the EOB but I tend to use the GOC Daily Readings phone ap for the daily readings because it's all in one spot.

I fully trust the Letters/books the Holy Spirit inspired the writers to write and not any translation of what they wrote. When I read any version, I realize there could be errors, so I go to the Spirit in pray asking for the message He wants me to get from what I read.

In order: KJV, NKJV and AMP
The AMP Bible is hard to read, but I will not judge those who use the AMP. I love the NKJV though (top three translations), and the KJV for poetic style, though the NIV and NRSV-CE are my favorites.

It looks like this: Guys [and gals], I do not use [read] the Amplified Bible (AMP), cos the [translation] looks [something] similar to this [well, most of the time]. It [the AMP version] is so wordy [as in, contains bracketed commentary] so it is not recommended for [daily] reading.

Nice. So, AMP is basically a Bible with built-in commentary? I like the concept, but prefer commentary to be at the bottom of the page, or off to the side.

For myself, I use artificial intelligence for exposition, as in making 80% of my devotionals. The other 20% from my life experience.

This is Mistral 7B (a locally run AI) analyzing four Bible passages which will be used in a devotional later this evening:

Whatever your favorite, one should always check the Interlinear for the original words used. That will be more correct even than my favorite version, NIV 1984 Bible (PDF) Others I like are...

NIV
LEB
NET
NASB
ESV
HNV

Today at a click we have so many Bible resources available to us online that so many of us can study the Bible! We don't need to sit with 4-5 Bible study books open such as concordances, dictionaries, commentaries, and other versions.

Online Bible sources I use.

I tend to read the KNJV on a consistent basis - for study I use a variety found on Biblegateway and of course blueletterbible.org For sermon illustrations the Message does an ok job.

The least - any that have the Apocryphal books -

Hey, we both agree on the NKJV being the Greatest of All Time (GOAT), but don't knock the apocryphal books of the other Bible versions. This is one of my favorite verses of the Septuagint, only found in Catholic and Orthodox Bibles.

Sirach 2:4-7 (NRSV-CE): "Accept whatever befalls you, and in times of humiliation be patient. For gold is tested in the fire, and those found acceptable, in the furnace of humiliation. Trust in him, and he will help you; make your ways straight, and hope in him."

Sirach 2:4-7 encourages us to accept the challenges and humiliations that come our way with patience and trust in God. It also emphasizes the importance of trusting in God and making our ways straight. By doing so, we can be refined as a metal in a kiln and eventually come out stronger and more faithful to God.

NKJV is certainly not the greatest of all time. It is the one I personally prefer for daily reading and study. Also, I am not 'knocking' anything - I am stating I do not regard the Apocryphal as canon. We can agree to disagree.

The question was what version was our favorite and which is your least favorite -

I stated mine. Sorry you don't like the statement, but it is the truth.

It is good that the canon was decided by the bishops of the Catholic Church long before we were born.

Good, just making sure. We are cool, brother. I do enjoy the NKJV, NIV and NRSV-CE equally.

But yes, it is okay if you do not accept Sirach as canon. At least both the Catholic and Orthodox Bibles and Protestant Bibles have the Gospel inside them, cos we both believe in Jesus being the Savior.

KJV It's the one I grew up with, and it sure sounds better than any other English version. Easier to memorize, too. Mom and wife prefer the Korean version, probably because they're Korean.

Trust least? The New World Translation, which was written to conform to Jehovah's Witness doctrine, after that, any verson that's a paraphrase of some sort, like The Living Bible or The Message. I can read English, modern or Jacobean (which made studying Shakespeare a lot easier) wihout any trouble , and I don't need the Bible pre-chewed for me.

For reading and prayer I like the RSV Catholic Editions best. The ESV Catholic edition is also rather good. For the liturgy I like the New Catholic Bible from the Catholic Truth Society best. And I dislike the NWT (New World Translation) most, but I also dislike The Message and the NET bible, and I think I will dislike the LSB (the one that John MacArthur's seminary created a few years ago).
