  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

When you see a small animal suffering what happens in your head and in your heart?

When you see a child helpless and uncared for what are you moved to do?

(Job 6:14 NRSV) 'Those who withhold kindness from a friend forsake the fear of the Almighty.

(Proverbs 21:21 NRSV) Whoever pursues righteousness and kindness will find life and honour.

(Micah 6:8 NRSV) He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

And this one from Proverbs 12:10. So yes, I try to take care of animals, or have someone else do that. If there is a centipede or bug in my place, I place the bug under a clear plastic cup, slide paper under the bug, and bring the bug outside.

Proverbs 12:10a (NIV): "The righteous care for the needs of their animals." :)

When I'm skating at the roof of our building or running up the staircase to exercise every morning, I see lots of trapped insects. They get through the staircase windows and unable to come out.

On the roof, they somehow, mysteriously, unable to get away once they make it to the roof and eventually dies when it gets hotter later in the day. Plenty of the trapped insects also die in the staircase.

I also find many dead insects that flew to the basement parking lots when I'm skating on the basement parking lots.

It just seems that modern structures and the city in general is deadly to insects and insects die by hunger, dehydration, and heat from the sun. In other words, slow death. It looks everything that mankind do is cruel to animals one way or the other.

We need to support regenerative farming - small local farms that care about their animals. Its more expensive to buy their products, but its basically our charity.

We also need to support any law, regulation, rule and certification regarding meat production, in general. So that even animals kept in cages and the like will have better living conditions and less stress when their day comes.

I don't think we like to see *anything* suffer. However, we are able to rationally accept the reality that some thing have to suffer--hopefully more moderately than severely.

For example, we know animals must die to provide food for humans. We know insect pests need to die to save our crops and to feed other important creatures. But to want to see suffering from other beings is in the category of mental illness.

I feed and water the deer, raccoons, foxes and opossums that live on my property. Most of them know me and I can hand feed many of them. I even give our black rat snake water that he drinks. :)

sometimes I see a fly and don't really want to place it under a plastic cup. There really can be a lot of them

Agreed. But lately, I try to rescue them. Luckily, my place rarely gets bugs.
