  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here they go house to house, with the cough stuff, they started calling on phone.
I spoke with one over the phone, they don't believe Jesus is God, they don't believe the Holy Spirit is a person, just that 2 things, are big errors.

I don't know how forum rule address discussing different denominations. In my opinion there are issues, but that's as far as I'll go.
JW do not count as christians in terms of CF rules, since they don't agree to the nicean creed.

As a naturalist, I'm skeptical of most all religious doctrines. JW's can believe whatever they want. But refusing blood products--even if a child is bleeding out from a life-threatening injury--is going too far. Although, there are synthetic blood substitutes which I think are acceptable.

Not to get off topic, but JW's are more reasonable than Christian Scientists. Who reject any medical treatment.

Then I can mention that Jehovah's Witnesses are discussed in both Whom Then Can We Believe? and Kingdom of the Cults. Just saying that could be considered inflammatory. Their beliefs are not the core beliefs of Christianity.

Correct, same with LDS, Christian Science, Unitarians, and Oneness Pentecostals.

Christian Science numbers are diminishing even though there is a congregation in my city. Last I checked, I think they are around 500,000. They used to be very popular in Hollywood. Joan Crawford was a convert, for example, but apparently still drank vodka heavily.
